That's a good question. No smell from my oil change. Will be changing again next week before our trip. So far all is well with RP. Have you checked around your oil filter cover for any vapor collection? Did you clean the areas where oil may have collected during the change? I Simple Greened mine after the change and eveything has stayed clean since. Almost 5000 miles on the change.

Cleaned it all really well - actually didn't spill much oil during the change. I checked the oil again and was probably a bit high on the dipstick - so I siphoned some oil back out to get her about 1/2 on the stick.

Smell is still there - will give it a few hundred miles to see what gives.

Does it smell only when it's running? And what kind of smell is it?

Only smells when running - hard to describe the smell - not something I've ever smelled before. Will pull the covers tonight and poke around to see what's going on.

I had a funny smell today too. It was my GPS cord melting against the engine!

Here is what RP had to say about the smell:

From your description – it would appear you are burning a bit of the RP oil and what you are smelling is the Synerlec Advanced Additive Technology that gives the MaxCycle the higher oil film strength for better metal to metal protection and improved performance.

If you’ve only had the oil in for a short while, I would expect this to minimize or even go away as the rings seat and seal better.

That's good to know, though I haven't had the smell. The performance of RP has just been great. Curious to see if there are any noticeable differences after the oil change I did yesterday.

Since I have the race-air intake system I'm sure I smell more than a stock Spyder--- hopefully it will go away.

I can tell you that the shifting is smoother - even the 'clunk' into first from neutral isn't as bad. The engine itself also has a smoother feel - hard to describe - but I have a really good feel for how my bike runs.

I agree, it IS hard to describe the difference. One of our California riders with an SM is very impressed how his is shifting a lot smoother. Our Spyder engine is also quieter (internally). Good to hear your report. It should get even better as you put more miles with RP.
