Has anyone here had issues with a body panel screw the won't come out. I have on that keeps turning but won't tighten or release. Any suggestions on getting it out would be much appreciated.

    Thumbs up

If you can get a pair of needelnose locking pliers on the head of the screw and PULL as you turn saw.
Good luck---- others here will have great ideas.

Thanks Lew, I've tried needle nose pliers but not locking ones! Great idea!

    Default Which one is it?

Where is it located on your spyder? I had one the other day and finally got it out. Success depends on which screw it is and it's location.

    Default hold the clip

There's a clip on the other side that came loose and keeps turning. Try holding it in place with pliers as you turn the screw

On the right side of the Spyder as you sit on it. Screw number 2 from the front of the panel.

Where this screw is, I have not been able to get my hand behind it to reach the clip. I'll keep trying, thanks!

Darn, mine was on an RT. If you can get anything behind that spring nut to jam it and stop it from turning. Just about any kind of pressure on it may help. Either pushing or pulling. Take your time and think it out. Don't rush it.

This problem screw doesn't have a "security" head on it, does it ??

On the RT there are two on each side that are not MEANT to be unscrewed; they screw into a rubber plug which PULLS out as the final step to get the panel loose.

If nothing else works, then the final straw will be drilling out the head. Start with a 1/8" bit and then go to the 1/4" bit. The head of the screw will pop off then.

No sir, it's a removable panel screw, on the F3 the four panel screws have to be unscrewed.

The two forward screws on the side panels go into a brass piece that is prone to coming out if you use too much force, like power tools. Why they didn't use clips like they have on the rear two screws is beyond me. Joe has repaired several of these, just did one on Tuesday, but he’s teaching today and won’t be looking at the site but I’ll tell him to look for this thread so he can tell you the repair method he uses.

    Default My fix

Remove the other 3 bolts. The problem one will probably be still attached to the plastic panel with the brass nut on it. Use a soft jaw pliers to hold it while you unscrew the bolt. The brass nut is slightly tapered. I drill the hole it came out of slightly with a 1/4” bit. Undo the 2 10 mm bolts on the plastic piece the brass goes into. Insert the brass nut from the back. Use the bolt and washer to draw the brass into the plastic. Undo the bolt, install the bolts that hold the plastic frame piece on. Install the plastic body panel. When tightening the repaired bolt, be gentle!
