Torque value (In ft/lbs) for the Oiul drain plugs

I have been through the threads - but cannot really find the Torque values - for re-instally my new oil plugs. Thanks in advance

Off the top of my head, I believe it’s 15 ft lb +/- 2 for a 998. Don’t know about a 1330.

I have done oil changes on an earlier 998 engine and now do oil changes on my 1330. I wouldn't worry about specific torque specifications on oil plugs. I just finger tighten as hard as I can and then use the wrench to give the plugs another 1/4 turn. I've never had a problem using this system.

The reason I am asking - is I have read so many horror stories - of striping threads, busting the plugs, etc. Just though I would "get it right".

If you have a 1330 engine, torque specs:
Oil sump drain plug = 21 lbft +/- 1 lbft.
Clutch cover (aka transmission) drain plug = 15 lbft +/- 1 lbft.
Oil filter cover = 18 lbft +/- 2 lbft.

make sure you have a new crush washer as they will absorb any vibration that could loosen the plug. Have always done it this way on all vehicles in all the shops I worked or owned... torque wrenches are normally longer than other tools and therefore make it easy to over do things....

Torque Wrench Use and Care Tips

• Tighten fasteners in two steps—first to half torque and then to final torque.
• Clean dirty or rusted threads before tightening, but don't lubricate them unless instructed to by the equipment manufacturer.
• Always dial the wrench back to zero (never below zero) when you're done with it.

I don't torque the oil plugs because it's near impossible to keep oil from getting on the threads and overtightening them. I use the "snug it up and give it a touch more" method.

Do you know if the oil filter cover torque is the same for the 998? I am going to a DYI oil change and want to know how tight they have to be when I put them back on. The service manual does not say.

Sorry, I do not know what the 998 filter cover torque is and it is an entirely different design than the 1330 engine.

I grew up without one, and I must have been very lucky.....that being said on low Torque bolts ,like the oil plugs ….Just make them tight - if they leak make it a tad tighter ….. the Torque isn't critical like the engine, trans, and suspension bolts ...jmho …. Mike
