    Default Dummy Key Question

It's a given that the Ilco X-270 makes a great non-chipped Dummy key for the 2008 through 2013
    Spyders.
Question: Is there a better choice for the 2014 and later bikes?

If the Ilco X270 is great for 2008-2013, what do you want that is greater for 2014 and up? My X270 works perfectly although I did have to bevel the leading edges as shown in the pic to enable me to depress the key all the way to open the frunk. It also fits conveniently in my wallet.

I did the exact same thing to the dummy key that I made for my 2010.
For my 2014: I mad a key with the 270 blank... the functioning of it was spotty!
I knew that the BRP keys for the newer bikes were just a bit longer...

First I heard that the key was longer. Did you measure it? How much difference?

It's a very small difference, and the 270 would work... but not reliably.

    Default Blank key

I would just take your OEM key to a local locksmith to see if they can match, cut and copy a blank key
There are several blank keys available on e bay etc if your local locksmith is unable to match the OEM one
They of course will be without the transponder in, it so it won’t start the Spyder but will allow you to lock the rear Funk

They look the same to me. Compared dummy key for my 2013 to the key for my 2018 F3 L.

If you would like. I will get a new battery for my calipers. Then compare my neighbors 2011 to my 2018 key?

Since my '14 is my first Spyder I just began the beveling until it allowed me clearance to press it all the way down in the ignition switch and have adequate clearance to turn w/o dragging on the switch cover.

Perhaps it was just the cut of that particular Dummy...
This Dummy will get an X-270, and give it a try!

I had a tough time finding an X270 key four years ago. Finally found it in a long time hardware store who's motto should be, "If we don't have it, you don't need it."

Default Dummy key - wait a minute....

... I'm not sure when to use a dummy key. I made some assumptions about locking and unlocking things - is that why I need a dummy key? Why wouldn't I just use my regular BRP key? I admit, I'm not connecting all the dots... help me finish the picture...

Here's a scenario. You routinely ride and stuff your Spyder key in a jacket pocket when you make a lunch stop. Today's an abnormally warm day and when you stop you stuff your key in jacket, throw jacket in frunk. No spare key in magnetic container somewhere on Spyder. "Aw !!!!!"

    Default Dummy key answered...

...and dots are connected - I have my spouse carry a spare chip key but there are times she isn't with me and I WILL do exactly what was described... dots connected!!
