I would like to see charts on the comparisons. Lamonts oil is rebranded Sprecto Oil. And it is the proper weight for our Spyder. As far as I know, Lamont's oil, BRP, Bel-Ray, and Shell are the only ones making 5-40 oil that is JASO certified. Tom
Baloo is my name. Spyders are my game. Well, it's a doo-bah-dee-doo, yes, it's a doo-bah-dee-doo, I mean a doo-bee, doo-bee, doo-bee, doo-bee, doo-bee-dee-doo. And, well, now. Ha ha! What have we here?

Not sure of all the 5W40 oils but Shell Rotella T6 is a 5W40 synthetic oil that is Jaso MA certified. That said I’m using Amsoil 10W40 Metric Motorcycle oil from Bajaron and it is doing a fine job. It will be analyzed when the 9000 mile mark is reached. The 10W40 Mobil 1 Racing 4 T did a fine job according to analysis at 8,600 miles so that is also a good oil.

    Default meeting the spec's

Probably need more time to have data on Lamonster oil. If it is Spectro that is a good oil no matter whos name is on it. If you find an oil you like and it meets the spec's outlined in your manual it is safe to us it. The weight can vary as to where you live and ryde. Warmer climate you can use the heavier oils 10w-40w in the colder climates stick with the 5w-40w.

JASO appears to be a Japanese manufacturers' standard (see below). What is its significance for Spyders?

The JASO Engine Oil Standards Implementation Panel consists of six organizations; Petroleum Association of Japan (PAJ), Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association, Inc. (JAMA), Society of Automotive Engineers of Japan, Inc. (JSAE), Land Engine Manufacturers Association (LEMA), Japan Lubricating Oil Society (JALOS), and Japan Boating Industry Association (JBIA) as well as other concerned companies (lubricant additive manufacturers).

"Thinking" about oil merely leads to ancedotal comments and the plural of anecdote is not science. The only way one can measure an oil's performance is through analysis.
Artillery lends dignity to what would
    otherwise be a vulgar brawl.
