    Default 1st 600 miles service

Just got that done. I need people opinion on the cost. I was charged $457 for this service. I was told there is $297 for labor and the rest for parts.
A little stiff for my taste. Does that sound in line with other dealers? Just curious...

I thought the first check up was 3000 and intervals of 6000 after that. It's been a while since I have had a new one and may not be correct

here. My first check up and oil change was $380 four years ago. Check to see if your dealer is owned by Ride Now Motorsports.

Your Spyder is a 2018 isn't it?? Who told you it needed the first service at 600 miles?? I thought that one of the big advantages of the newer 1330 engines was that they didn't need that early service OR the more frequent servicing that the V-twins need, rather only needing the first service at 3000 miles & then somethjng like every 6000 miles (or was it 9000 miles?) or annually!!

So I guess you've been had by that Dealer whatever way you look at it!

That sounds crazy steep to me. Also, if your machine is a 2014 or newer, your 1st service isn't required until 3000 miles.

When asking a question about your Spyder. Tell us the year and model of your Spyder. It is very important. I had to look at your profile to figure out what Spyder that you have. So a 2018 RT. The first service is at 3,000 miles not 600. Not sure why you would bring it in so early. The owners manual is your friend. Take a look at the maintenance schedule.

Looks like you were misinformed (lied to) if you were told 600 miles. That's why it's good to read the manual. First service is 3000 miles and next service at 12,300 miles and every 9300 miles thereafter. If done properly the first service is labor-time intense. If they told you 600 miles, I would speculate they drained the oil, refilled it and took your money. Better yet they may have parked it, never touched it. This is my worse-case scenario.

    Default Dealers call

Interesting thread....... I have a 2016 RT-S , My salesperson told me 600 and I had it done(approx. $400) I brought up the fact it was 3000 in the manual , he said he knew that but they like to get an early view of the bike to make sure everything was good with next service being 9300. I think I have a good , knowledgeable dealership and always have gone over and above.

Hopefully this doesn't burn me in the long run but I've had body panels replaced , had some parts replaced under warranty and never had to deal with it, they have taken care of it....so I trust them

(yes, I saw subsequent posts that OP has a 2018 RT...just adding my 2 cents for future readers...)
Negotiated it into purchase price ...quoted approx $180 for next service at 4600 miles.

    Default Wow...!!

What amazes me is that the dealer would not inform you that the service is at 3000 for your year and model. It's not like they have not learned in 4 years to tell the difference. I think those that don't (unless you want it) are taking advantage of those unaware or did not check thier manual or were not informed at purchase. Hope they didn't tell you to come back at 3000 to have it done again....

Isn't that just the Break-In procedure (shifting, RPM, braking etc) ?? The 1st service should be at 3000 mi.

Default The Dealers "600 Mile Service"

When I purchased my Spyder last year, I was told the first service was 600 miles. I came home and opened the manual and it stated the first service was 3000 miles. When I emailed the dealer stating the their information was wrong, the replied with "The 600-1000 miles is the break in period for the bike. Since the oil is supplied directly from factory when the bike is build, sometimes it sits without being driven, until a dealer take it out of the crate. We always recommend to change the oil after the break in period to all of our customers that have purchased a new bike. Yet, it is upon the customer to choose if they want to change it during the break in period or at the 3000 miles first service." and a picture of the manual that showed where it states Operation during break which says there is a break-in period and no hard braking for 200 miles. When I replied that nowhere in that statement does it say anything about needing a service and that I would follow the manual. There reply was if I did not trust their expert opinion that I was free to do as I wish for which I did and followed the manual.

Just another way for them to F-Over the customer, bottom line it read the manual and educate yourself as some of the dealers expert opinion is base on the $$.

    Default This Thread is Incredible!!!

Four years into the 1330 engine and some stealers are still telling new owners the first service is due at 600 miles. FWIW, pages 91 and 109 of the 2016 F3 and F3 T/F3 Ltd online operator's giudes, respectively, say the same thing, First Inspection - 5000 KM (3,000 MI). Yes, labor rates do vary through the country but, at this stage of the game such behavior is, in fact, criminal fraud, no doubt about it. New owners: protect your wallet; thoroughly read your operator's guide!

    otherwise be a vulgar brawl.

I am thinking you got taken by the dealer. First of all, I note you have a 2018 RT. The first service for the 1330 x 3 is recommended at 3,000 miles, NOT at 600 miles. That was for the earlier 998 x 2 models.

$457 is a bit on the high end for oil/ filter, and a checkover. $350 or so is more in line.

I just had mine in (2014 RT) and had an oil change, filter, battery, and brake pads. They charged me around $600 for this. AND...they did not have the transmission filter in stock--so that is still on the agenda. The high cost of service still remains one of my pet peeves. I am hoping to find a happy medium when I go to Arkansas next year.
