    Default Garage door opener.

20180424_162604.jpgTook a suggestions of putting in the pull down instruction card location. Didn't have to modify anything on the bike. Thanks for the suggestions. Just wanted to add a photo.

Looking for some suggestions for adding a garage door opener to my Spyder - 2014 STSE5LMT.
On my Honda, I just have it strapped to the handle bar, but really don't find a good spot to put one on the Spyder.
If I strap it to the handle bars, it is kinda in the way of the Garmin mount.
Thought about putting it in one of the blank spaces for the toggles - wiring in the button, but I'm not good understanding wiring.
Wondering what anyone else has done. Thanks for the input.

    Default Key Chain Remote

I purchased a smaller remote that worked with my garage door. My jacket has a small pocket on my left upper arm (don't know what it is really for) that is the perfect size for the smaller remote. I put a small piece of velcro (the hook part) on the back of the remote to hold it in that pocket. It works great, I pull out of my garage touch my left shoulder and the garage door closes. Looks cool too

Does your model have the "safety instruction card" that pulls out from the top of the dash board ??

I found a good use for mine.

I shoved the bracket/clip on my garage door remote into that slot....firmly.....and it is a tight fit and stays put good.
Adding a little piece of stick-on door bumper to the button makes it easier to push.

    Default Not that hard....

I have mine behind the instrument cluster and wired to a button on the dash. You have blank spaces for buttons so somewhat easier. Once you open up the remote you can find the button connections and tap into them to run the leads out to the switch. If not your thing take it to any electronic repair location and have them solder in some leads. Then you have some good suggestions above as well....

Just put it on your key ring. Much more secure as you seldom leave the keys with the bike.

I mounted my garage door opener in the glovebox.
I have saved the foam insert from my original 2010 RT glovebox, and have it mounted in that!

    Default Garage Door Opener

I purchased an opener from Mo-Door for my ST before I traded it. I attached the control box under the panel by the handlebar and placed the remote button which was about the size of a quarter on top. I moved the switch over to my F3-Limited and did the same thing. I do know that Mo-Door now has openers specifically designed for Spyders.

Added pictures showing the location of my Mo-Door Garage Switch located beside the handlebars on the right side. This is on my F3 but I used the same switch on my ST-S.

Your remote must be a LOT smaller than mine is.

And it is not good to have a lot of weight dangling down from the key while it is in the ignition switch.......with ANY vehicle.
That tends to wear out the switch prematurely AND also tends to scratch whatever the extra stuff comes in contact with.

did the same thing. Works great. Stuck it on the front wall in a vertical position so it would not interfere with the 380 and extra mags

I have been looking at these but for my F3. I have a friend who has one on his slingshot and he loves it.

Mine stores in the top box. Jacket pockets do not work for me as I change jackets to often. Have left the remote in the jacket a few times.

I don't want them visable due to worry about theft.

This is the one I have but the other brand openers have similar key fob remotes.

I have a small remote on the keychain for my F3 but recently added the Chamberlain MyQ which allows me to control the door from my phone which I always use when riding the RTS. The MyQ is nice because it will alert you if you leave the door open after leaving and you can open and close it from anywhere.

Like several others above, I have an opener about the size of JC’s velcroed to the front wall of my F3-L glovebox. Works a treat and is a very cheap option.

Fairly easy mod. I opened the controller case and attached leads to the battery connections in the controller and used the accessory 12v from the bike. No more worries about replacing batteries and it only works when the bike is on. Two more leads attached to the push button in the controller and hooked to a momentary switch mounted on the bike. Even if you aren't mechanically or electrically inclined I bet if you ask around one or more of your friends will have a soldering iron.

    Default No glove box

Before anyone else suggests putting the opener remote in the glove box and how well it work there. I will point out the OP has a ST model and it does not have a glove box. So really not an option.

I hardwired one of the remotes that came with my openers. Used a double throw switch, momentary both ways, installed into a empty accessory switch location. The double throw switch allows me to control both my garage doors. This may be above your head but you may have a friend or relative that could help you.
