An Idea For a New Product?
I've seen all manner of farkle and doo-dads for Spyders. But I haven't come across something that I feel a lot of folks might find useful -- That would be a sunshade for the dash display (similar to ones you find on Amazon for various GPS units).
I just find my dash display very difficult to read under certain (sunny) conditions and I would think that some kind of shade would be useful. Even better if the shade were effective enough to activate the "night mode" of the display (which I find much easier to read).
AFAIK, I don't think that anyone offers something like this - or perhaps I just haven't come across one.
Any thoughts?
Thanks.

TAPE
I'M WITH YOU ON THIS ONE......
if anyone knows where the 'sensor' for the night shade is, plz tell us... that way we could maybe put a piece of electrical tape over it, which would keep the NIGHT SCREEN 'ON'.....

You would think....
I have an RS and if you ryde too long with the sun to your back you can loose the display altogether. On my RS I can pull out the famous safety card and drop it down over the instrument cluster. You can't see anything unless you pick it up a bit but you wont loose the display. I would think there could be a cutout to fit the dash that would filter and keep the screen visable. Clip on or velcro when you are in sunny situations...maybe some day....

Have you ever seen those THIN plastic dividers they sell for 3 ring note books ...that could be made to fit ....or the thin plastic signs they sell for selling cars, houses etc. , I have some 8 to 10in. wide by 24 in long....... I tried the " NIght " setting on the instrument cluster during day-light ....it didn't work ...couldn';t see it any better ........ Mike

If you can figure out a way to attach the above-mentioned sunshade:

if it works, i'll keep reducing the length of tape until i find the optimum amount and position....

I'm not sure a sunshade would work.
At least for me on an RT, the problem comes from the sun bouncing off the handlebars and onto the dash.
A non reflective coating on the dash panel cover would be helpful.
My 2014 has black handlebars, that seems to help, though I still have problems reading the turn signal arrows.
Just my opinion, I could be wrong. I'm sure someone here will let me know if I am.
If it ain't broke, don't break it.

Seems like some of the privacy blocking stuff you put on computer monitors would work; it just attaches itself to the screen, ought to do the same to your display when properly trimmed to size. Just a thought.

Been there, Done that, didn't work. At least not on my 2015 RT. The sensor is sensitive enough that I just about had to tape off half the gauge face in full sunshine.

That would be ideal! Please report back here if he has a useful suggestion.

They make it for cell phone screens and monitors even polarized.

The tinted windshield I just installed seems to help, havn't been out too much with it yet but the couple of times I have I notice less glare.
-
FWIW - I just taped a rectangle of thin cardboard over the right-side half of the analog speedometer. That was enough to activate "night-mode" of the dash without covering anything important. Mucho better now!

Turn signal arrows........how about eyeglass stick on bifocals?

I once suggested to SpyderPops that I needed a non-reflective surface on the display. I think that would be simpler than building something out over it.

I bought the protective and non-reflective film for an I-pad, then cut it to size and put it one both our F3 Spyders. It does help some, but doesn't make it "easily seen and easily readable" during daylight. I will be leaving them on though, since it does help some with reflection.
Now if they would make some "magnifying" non-reflective film, I'd try that for sure. Everything is just to small for an old guy like me.........any ideas on that!

On my RS-S, the problem is that the clear instrument cover is almost perfectly perpendicular to my viewing angle when I look at the dash. No matter what kind of shroud you put around it, if the sun is over my shoulder, it's going to shine directly in my eyes. It's a pretty stupid design. The instruments should be at a different angle, as on a lot of other bikes—
Either making the gauges themselves almost vertical...

...or angling the reflective cover vertically.

My problem is with my GPS on my 2008GS. I've tried multiple shrouds and films that promise to reduce glare, and nothing helps. But, when I do try angling the GPS for less glare, it does help a little. I wonder why they don't make GPS's with LCD displays? I never have a problem with glare for my LCD display on my spyder
