Default Any tips on 2009 RS SM5 DIY Oil Change?

    Hello,

I have been researching doing my own oil change on my 2009 RS SM5. I already purchased the kit from Amazon. Can-Am Sypder Roadster SM5 Oil Filter Change Service Kit 219800262

Any tips or advice before I dive in tomorrow? I did purchase a torque ratchet. I have been researching you tube videos as well. I have read my manual too.

    Thank you for your input.

    Sheila

remember, the oil plugs are not torx head, they are allen head, (hex).

Bring the engine up to normal operating temperature to get the oil hot.

Drain the oil reservoir & crankcase

Change the oil filter & 'O' ring

    Replace drain plugs

ONLY put in 3 quarts (or 3 litres) of new oil into the oil reservoir.

Run engine for a minute or two to circulate the oil & stop engine

Add the rest of the oil to the reservoir. 3.9 litres (4 quarts) in total is used in the oil change.

Run engine up to normal operating temp to make sure oil is hot. Check for leaks & measure oil level on the dipstick exactly as described in the owners manual.

Just finished my 2012 RS SM 5 and according to the dipstick in the oil tank, mine took almost 5 qts of oil. I warmed ot up prior to the oil and filter change and drained close to 5 qts of old oil. Removing the crankcase bolt is a PIA, but once out replace it with a magnetic hex head bolt, do the same on the oil tank.
