I started this thread in the WTB Section and thought it would be better to move it over to here. Started out looking for a sport rack for my RS, found one on ebay, and finally got it mounted today. My plan was and still is to mount a Givi top box to the rack. After mounting the rack, I did a quick check to see how the givi mounting plate would fit. Quickly discovered that it didn't lay flat because the rack has a raised lip to the rear of the lid. Now my guess is I'll need spacers to level things out. But before I reinvent the wheel, has anyone been there done that? I'd like to know what you used for spacers or if there is some other remedy that I'm not seeing. Thanks for your help.
Hey spacertiger, the pictures didn't show up in your link. When you cut the hump off the rack, was there much of a hole to fill? And did you have to seal around the plate to keep water from getting into the hole?
Wyliec, I don't have the backrest, so I'm going to use the top box as storage and backrest.
however I recently got a top case off eBay, mine looks & mounts differently
other option Ive found & want to try. IMG_5022.jpgIMG_5024.jpg

Bfromia - thanks for the link. I wonder if cutting out the webbing of the givi mount will leave enough support/strength for the long term. The person warlock sold his spyder to (if thy're a member here) may have something to add about that.
I'm doing the exact same thing now. I'm just buying another lid for the sport rack and mounting the bracket to that. Using some spacers to clear the lip. I'm actually 3D printing my spacers so I can customize them a bit but just using off the shelf ones would work as well I think, With this setup you either run the sport rack as normal, switch the plate out for the backrest or switch the plate out for the storage box.
I don't have very good pics at the moment, but what I did was just used pieces of gray PVC pipe, cut to one inch in length. Then I drilled holes in the sport rack and ran bolts from the Givi mount to the sport rack. I then can either just take the Givi case off, or take the whole rack and case off. This also gets the rack high enough to let the seat open fully when I put gas in it.

Pm Warlock he had bike long enough to know more. From our conversation there were no problems I liked his mount & wanted to try myself is why I bought one off eBay & when it arrived it had different mount plate so now I'm trying to figure what to do with it.

Here is a pic of what I did. I don't think you will need as many standoffs as I used, but I wanted to make sure it was secure, and high enough that I could fully lift the seat. 20180326_164757.jpg
Looks good, I'm going to give it a try. About clearing the seat, wouldn't it have made more sense if can am had hinged the seat on the right side instead of at the back? A side hinge would let it open all the way allowing more access? Probably something I'm missing, but I've seen a lot of motorcycles seats hinged on the side.

Jim,
Follow these instructions, you should be able to see the pics. Let me know if you still have problems, and I will email them to you if you pm me with your email address. I sealed the hole, you can see the size in the pics.
If you're using Google Chrome, go to the three dots on the right side of the screen and click them. A drop down should appear. Hover your mouse over "More Tools," and when the next drop down appears, click on extensions. Go to the link towards the bottom that says "Get more extensions." In the search box, type "Photobucket Fix," and hit enter. Click the install button and once it's done, you should be able to see photobucket pictures again.
For FireFox users, click on the three bars on the right side of the screen, then click on add ons. Click search for "photobucket hotlink" and click install. Same result.

Spacertiger, thanks for the directions, worked great and was able to see the pictures. I like how the finished top box looks on the back of your spyder, just got to decide if I want to cut a hole in my sport rack.
Briuse01 - do you have pictures of what you did to the mount to get it to fit the sport rack lid?
Sorry...I didn't take any pictures while doing it but pretty much I just drilled through the Sport Rack Lid in to the M5 Top Case Mounting Plate. I'm thinking I had to put a spacer on to level it but that was about it. Dropped the sport lid on the bike and popped on the top case. I never had any rattling, it was solid. I actually bought another sport lid off of Ebay so if I wanted to take the topcase off I could remove it all and drop in the spare sport lid. Worked like a charm.
