    Default Interesting....🤔

Most trucks have stickers stating "if you can't see my mirrors I can't see you" that would make the dude in front the only one... but true There are many areas they do not have a clear view.

Well this may or may not come as a surprise but they are now testing self driving semi trucks in the western United States! Now that my friends is scary! I-5, I-10, I-20, I-25, I-17 and so on. This has been in many news papers the last six months. They do have a driver behind the wheel but only during testing and planning to go driverless by the year 2020. I have a good friend Alan Otto who owns Otto trucking with 350+Semi Trucks and they are already planning for this after testing is complete and Federal approval.

A 49 year old woman was killed today by a self driving car in Phoenix, AZ. Uber has a fleet of these being tested in San Fransisco, Phoenix, LA and others. (Arizona Star) This is not the first death caused by driverless cars. There was a safety person behind the wheel who obviously was not able to prevent this.

    Be careful out there!

Yes, it's a reflection of "education" being replaced by "indoctrination" in our school systems, isn't it?

And the vast majority of people write it's (contraction of it is) when they mean its (possessive of it).

Yes, and this indicates the victim may have been at least partially at fault. I hope the investigation follow-up gets reported so that we can find out. Sad.

See those little round mirrors on the fenders, just below the big vertical ones? I bet they are the convex-lens type, to give a wide-angle view of everything around the truck.

But that's not to say the driver has the time or opportunity to actually "see" everything around him in time to save your butt, so it's a good idea not to ride there.

    a good safety tip
plus we get English lessons, which, while correct, are completely irrelevant to the post subject.

I totally agree that it gives us something to think about.

However, the m/c in the front would have a rider on it which would add a lot of height. So unless he was right in front of the bumper he would be seen. Also it would be the truck infringing on his space by coming up his *ss.

Any contact with anything while you are riding will be to your detriment.

Many times entering Montreal on a 3 lane each way freeway I will be in the right lane (slow lane) doing the speed limit when an 18 wheeler will come up the centre lane doing 10 kph over the limit & for quiet a while I will be in his blind spots. He would have known I was there to start with but I would disappear from his field of view. A nervous time for me. People in front & behind me so I'm kind'a stuck.

I know I can slow down & let him get ahead, but scary nonetheless. It can go on for several minutes & a kilometre or two & you can bet he's forgotten about you unless he has those bevelled mirrors as well. I have my headlights on high beam & my 2 low down spots on all the time to be more visible.

    Just ranting a bit. Sorry.

When I was driving my Mack pulp truck, pulling up behind a car at a stop light the entire car was hidden from sight. It really scared me, because one thinks the trucker can see what a car driver sees. Actually, the hood blocked about one and a half cars in front. A driver not paying attention could easily drive over the vehicle in front if that vehicle stalled or just failed to move at the light change.

Vided's picture is very good food for thought. Machinegunner's post gives us very good perspective too of what the truck driver cannot see dead ahead. The big thing the picture does not give us is an idea of what the truck driver can actually see in his mirrors.

Several weeks ago a friend and I were talking with an experienced long haul trucker, well into his fifties, about just this subject. He told us a story about an learning experience he had when he had been in the business about 10 years. A real "old hand" did a walking tour around the younger driver's rig stopping at various points and telling the driver to adjust his mirrors so he could see him. The young fellow said he was absolutely amazed that after driving school and many thousands of miles on the road he had been shortchanging himself on just what he couldn't see through his mirrors because thet weren't as well adjusted as they could have been.
Artillery lends dignity to what would
    otherwise be a vulgar brawl.
