    Default Side Panels

YES, Keep it under 100.Might check to see if someone put grease on the tabs. Maybe one or so of the rubber grommets have aged out. Or even missing. PS: these items may be an issue.

I lost a R side panel as a result of a failure of part of the splash deflector below it and a big foot, but the ultimate cause was that the clip on the upper front of the inside of the panel came undone. In the picture below you see the plastic clip that is part of the panel. When the panel is correctly installed that clip snaps onto the rear of the front panel immediately beneath the side panel. If that clip is not correctly snapped in place you are living on borrowed time. A little spritz of Windex on the three rubber grommets that hold the side panel in place before you reinstall it makes it easier to maneuver the side panel so you can get the clip properly snapped in place. I check both panels before each ride and always before I leave the dealership if they've pulled any Tupperware off.

Put a lead wire on mine. Hook it to the frame and the side panel may blow off but you will not loose it.

Side panel checks are a part of the daily "pre-ride" routine here. Every time I get dealer service, I can count on the panels not being properly put on and have to attach them properly before I drive off.

Have not lost one yet--but it is an expensive proposition if that were to happen.

I cut those top placcy clip bits off & put a chrome DZUS fastener there instead - they are never gonna fall off accidentally again!

Would like to see a few photos of your solution - sounds very sensible.
