Default M1 4T Oil Reports over time

Just got back my lab reports on both the RT and F3. The RT had 7k miles on it's oil and really held up well. The F3 did not fair quite so good, but I believe it is due to the difference in mileage between the two engines. Another factor the lab is probably not considering is that the oil takes a beating from the wet clutch. And in that regard it seems the more miles on the engine the less a shearing factor occurs. I will not be changing the oil on either byke for at least 7k miles. Very pleased with the results.
The RT report covers almost 30k miles and comprises 5 total reports. The F3 just the one. Not sure why the other report only had one....

RT.jpgAs you can see the RT shearing has reduced as the mileage goes up.

F3.jpgI am not concerned with the caution. The RT did the same. The BRP oil sheared even farther than the lowest result on either engine.

Sorry about the size. They were full screen. May have to CTRL + to make image bigger.

I’ll be doing an analysis on the same oil in our F3L in a couple weeks. Shooting for 9,000 miles.

Yes. All those reports are all Mobil 1 4T oil using the BRP oil filters.

There are different ones you can use, but we like the ones from Napa. They are a little slow, but it's less than $20 and gives you a good, early warning system if something is starting to come apart.

This refers to what happens to the long chain molecules in the oil. Motorcycle specific oil has its foundation built around its long chain molecules as they are what can resist this "shearing" the best. It primarily happens due to being run thru the gears etc in the trans since the oil is shared with it. Clutch slippage could do it some but the gears/input & output shafts/synchro rings etc are the primary culprit. Obviously an oil that can resist this shearing and do it better over a longer mileage is the holy grail in oils....

You're not alone! I didn't have any knowledge at all that shearing even existed until it was discussed here on SL!
