Let's see...
It would seem you are not getting power to the system. Check battery (even if new don't know if you got an original but does need at least 12.7volts to start the motor) you also need to check all connections to frame and battery loose or dirty will not make good connection. Try to jump (hook up car battery if in the car with the engine off). Check kill switch though if you get a click it should be good....

If direct jumper of the battery spins the starter motor, it appears the battery works. So, could be a starter motor solenoid issue.
But first - As mentioned, check the Kill Switch is in the run position.
Then, let's go back and recheck the connections on the battery terminals. There are three red wires that need to all be connected to the positive terminal. One of them likes to hide sometimes in the red rubber boot and gets missed being reconnected. There are two wires on the negative I believe.
While you're there, the starter motor solenoid is close by just forward of the battery. In case you need to troubleshoot that, this is where it is.
As mentioned, check that chassis ground under the seat.

Did you charge the new battery yet ??
Many of them come almost fully DIScharged.
Also.....on those older models it is not good enough to just tap the mode button.
Seems like I remember that it must be held down.....OR you need to wait about 10 seconds.

On my 2012 just a solid push on the mode button is enough.

Possible bad kill switch.
As a temporary victim of a fried kill switch and having my entire right side handlebar console assembly replaced for it, the mechanic demonstrated how if I did a handstand on the kill switch on position, it could start, but it would die when i released the pressure.
I had the same symptoms as the OP.
