Default 2014 Rotax 1330 Ace Engine

I just watched a Can-Am video on this new engine.

Here are there recommendations for service.

    Break in - 3,000 miles

    Oil Change - 9,300 miles

    Coolant & Spark Plugs - 28,000 miles

    Transmission Filter - 28,000 miles

    Valve Adjustment - Never

Sine the 2014 will be my first purchase, I would appreciate experienced owners comments.

    Thanks.

Mileage is just one factor, you must also consider time. Some riders may take 5 years to get to 28,000 miles while others are there in a season. Initially, stick with the manufacturers recommendations, that way your warranty will not be jeopardized.

It appears to me that BRP has taken a swing at addressing owners' complaints about the cost of servicing these bikes!

It interests me because the dealer I am considering is an hour and a half away.

Yes. There is one dealer here. But I don't feel food about them.

Comments about what? No one has any experience with the 2014 models. How can anyone comment? Consumer Reports doesn't rate new models or major redesigns because there's no practical experience to base anything on. Six months after the 2014 models have been out there, that is when you should be looking for comments.

It's a crapshoot to be the first in line for the new Spyders, The 2013 models strayed from the previous design and look what happened there!

I was referring to the suggested maintenance schedules.

I have never seen spans like that.

If the 2014 is as easy to service as my 2011, I will change the oil and filters (oil & Tranny )every 5-6,000 miles just for piece of mind. I think 9,200 miles is a lot to ask of your oil .

I agree. While most cars today go that long and my '13 accord calls for filters every other oil change, I wouldn't feel comfortable with such long usage on a bike. Curious to see where the transmission filter is located and what type it will be.

I'll wait for the * in the service interval. There's almost always something associated with a * or ** or *** that says you're well within the exception or extreme conditions. At least, it matters here in AZ. Both of my cars have the above designations with regards to extreme conditions...heat - check, dust - check...in for service we go.

If you take a look at the owners manual. It states miles or 1 year. Which ever is first.

Oil change will probably be 9300 miles or 1 year whichever comes first. Since most people will ride less than 4500 miles annually (the current oil change mileage) the cost of an oil change will remain the same, about $300 per year. But there will be savings from no valve adjustment, about $600 which is good.

No, this engine was developed for the Spyder. The confusion may come from that the design was based on what BRP calls ACE (Advanced Combustion Technology). Same technology used in a different engine. Snowmobiles don't use gearbox transmissions built into their engines.

It is based upon those four-stroke triples...
but it's been in the works and getting street-testing for the past three years...

RE: Service Intervals: Longer than on previous models--hence the comments about less maintainece costs.

RE: Experience out there: Other than prototype information, many are still waiting to pick up and start driving their machines--once the dealer's get them. It's going to take three to four months till we have some good information covering a few thousand miles of actual operation.
