Default 2014 RSS Rear Shock dimensions

    HI everyone,

I am getting a rear shock made with low high speed comp rebound. As I am not able to dismount the shock myself, I took the trike to Quantum Racing, who have been able to measure rear shock as much as they could in situ. We still need width of the top of shock absorber (hidden behind metal boxed section) and bottom please.

Also any info on spring re length, spring rate etc will be helpful.

    Many thanks for your help.

    Best wishes

Who is building the shock? Post some pics when you get the chance; let me know if you can see these:

Data from rear shock on 2013 ST Limited. The part number for the shock and spring are the same for the 2014 RSS.
    Shock ETE = 13.5"
    Shock body diameter = 1 14/16"
    Spring FL = 10.5"
    Spring installed length = 9 13/16" (11/16" preload)
    Spring OD - 2 15/16"
    Spring ID = 1 14/16"

The spring is a 2 rate spring. I don't have the data with me at this location but can post this tomorrow night.

If the shock length can be made longer than 13.5", say 13.75" to as much as 14" look into this possibility.

I did some measurements to check swingarm movement to shock compression and found out how little clearance there is between the tire and underbody panel when the shock fully compresses. If you do not ride 2 up, you should be able to set up the stock length to not be an issue. Verify the stroke of the new shock and make sure it is not more than the oem shock if you stay with the same ETE length. If it is more, you run the risk of the tire impacting the underside as it get pretty close with the stock ETE and stroke.

Some pics to help you see what I am talking about.

Note: THe shock is not fully compressed and this is the remaining clearance:

Note: Same here, the shock is not fully compressed in this pic:

Hi Jerry, not able to see pics. but this data is gold for me. I am getting shocks done by Quantum Racing. http://quantumracing.co.uk/two-zero/ . They did setup on my last reverse trike. I am getting a two way set up on rear of RSS. Having read on F3S posts, spring rate is 350-400. You are right RSS is dual rate. Any info on spring will be great. Best wishes - Babr

See if this helps you see the pics:

If you're using Google Chrome, go to the three dots on the right side of the screen and click them. A drop down should appear. Hover your mouse over "More Tools," and when the next drop down appears, click on extensions. Go to the link towards the bottom that says "Get more extensions." In the search box, type "Photobucket Fix," and hit enter. Click the install button and once it's done, you should be able to see photobucket pictures again.

For FireFox users, click on the three bars on the right side of the screen, then click on add ons. Click search for "photobucket hotlink" and click install. Same result.

    Default Spring Rate

    Hi Jerry,

Re bottoming out, I weigh 150 lbs and wife 105 so never bottomed out. I will ask Quantum re height adjustable shock. They are awaiting info on stock springs, so if you have any data on rear spring rate, that will be great.

Many thanks again for all your help.

a video of my last trike with quantum shocks

    Babr,

    Lower spring rate = 405 lb/in

    Upper spring rate = 810 lbs/in

Cross over point happens at 705 lb loading (@ 1.74")

Are you keeping the Fox shocks on the front? If so, the spring rates on these are 181 lbs/in. I found them a bit weak and switched to 225 lb/in.

    Hi,
Thanks, thats perfect re shock data. For now I am keeping stock Fox shocks. I could sense more nose dive on harsh braking have increased preload today. Will see what difference it makes, just a trial. Doing one mod at a time to gauge riding difference. Will keep you posted on shocks, expecting around 4-6 weeks turnaround.

Best for now and many thanks again.

    Cheers

Hi everyone, hope all is well. I have been riding RSS in snow, cold and all through winters.

I will get new rear shock next week so will post pics soon.

Re front Fox shocks , I increased preload (6 rings from bottom test driven for 2 months), but have dialed back to 5 rings as the ride was mega harsh and probably my low weight (now 65 Kgs) didn't do any favours. The ride is more compliant now on bumps but very cushy on steering. I will sort fronts once been fully satisfied with new rear shock.

    See you soon.

    Thanks
