Why F3 rear axle nut not secured?
After looking at other Spyder models and seeing how the rear axle nut is secured with a safety pin and a plastic cover I got concerned, because the right rear axle nut on my F3 is not secured with anything. There aren't even plastic covers. I don't care about the covers (other than they keep dirt away from the axle), but I wonder if it's just me or is it common on all F3s?
I'm attaching two pictures - the left and right sides. The left side nut is secured with the axle flange, so it's not going anywhere, but the right side concerns me. Should it?

Yours is correct. That's the way they are. 23,000 miles on my first F3 with no issues.

I agree with you, the axles should have a cotter pin. It's standard safety practice.

Quick Fix:
If concerned, why not just ad another axle nut & thin spring washer? They're thin & it looks like there's enough thread/space.

I have to believe there is a reason for all motorcycle mfg to have a very tight torque'd axle nut & still have a cotter pin in the axle. Perhaps it's a safety precaution in case the mechanic forgets to torque the axle nut or ~~~~~, but since the mfg go thru the expense of drilling a hole through the axle & adding a safety cotter pin you best believe they have a reason. Plus if any of these cotter pin less axles decide to test the top speed on a one mile sanctioned top speed run (usually on abandoned air strips) no axle cotter pin = no test run--period. (similar to arguing that your DOT helmet is just as good as a current Snell rated helmet--will get you No Where)

You did not share what year your F3 is. But the 2015 F3s exploded parts view does not show one. So I will assume it does not need it.

Thank you for the diagram. I have 2015 F3-S. Based on the diagram the right side is supposed to have both nut(1) and a nut(43) after the washer(8) . Mine only has (1), no second one.
Is this how you have it on yours?
Thanks

Don't panic! Trust me when I tell you yours is correct. Between my friends and I we have 7 F3S's, (4 2015's, 1 2016, and 2 2017's) and everyone is exactly like yours, including my new '17 Daytona.
