Did a quick search through the shop manual (electronic version) and only found the DC resistance: 4 ohms +-
But that is not necessarily the same as the impedance to audio signals.

" RSI " .... I have not heard of this company making either speakers or stereo head units ....but that is what's showing on the speakers....... Mike

The most difficult part of doing this swap is removing the " Tupperware " ..... If you have a Dremel use the most coarse stone after you mark the OEM plastic for a 4 5/8th hole ...... Mike

I just finished doing this on my RT. Got the Hogtunes from Fortnine here in Canada for about $250 CDN. Fronts were very easy, but working with the Tupperware in the cold is not the best idea. I was able to slide the front speakers into place without too much disassembly but it required quite a bit of flexing of the dash plastics.

For the rears, I was fully prepared to dremel the hole for the bigger speakers but then I discovered the speakers themselves were bigger and prevented the plastic cover from fitting back. This required using the dremel to trim the speakers on two sides. Luckily there was enough metal left that it didn’t affect where the cone was glued to the frame. So this is something to beware if anyone else tries this.

Now I have to wait for spring to hear if it was a worthwhile mod.

Thanks to you guys for the howto.

Interesting about enlarging the rear speaker hole .... the HogTunes speaker bodies must be a bit larger than the JBL 5.25 in ones I used ......What are the ohms listed as ????? .......... Glad you tried the Mod ..........Mike

The Hogtunes definitely have a bigger frame , I did grind some of the metal frame off.
Great to see more Spyder lovers trying this mod

No update yet, it’s still winter up here so I have at least 2 more months to wait before I can try them. The grinding wasn’t all that bad, but the second one was a lot easier to do.

Reporting back after my first spring ride... this is very subjective, and it’s been 4 months since I rode with the OEM speakers, but I’m pretty sure there’s a significant difference. Definitively recommend the front upgrade. For the rear, given the amount of work, i’m not convinced. I have the fader set to center and I can’t specifically hear the rear but they “probably” contribute. I’ll have to try it with the fronts only to hear if there’s a difference. I do think there’s more low range overall.

I use no-noise earplugs, and i can hear the radio fine even at highway speeds with volume just shy of halfway and speed sensitive volume set to medium.

    Default Hogtunes speakers

I recently replaced my wife's speakers with the hogtunes 2 ohm units. They sounded great. After just a couple of days though, the sound is very distorted and sounds like the speakers are already blown. Looks like I'm going to have to try another brand. Suggestions?

Checy, before 'replying' to a thread, it ALWAYS pays to look at the date on the first post in the thread; and then check the date on the last few posts at the end too.... roblet58's post immediately before yours is almost 2 years old; the post before that by Northofthesix was put up over a year earlier; and NotSteve's post, only 5 back from yours, hit the board in March 2018.....
