    Default Out with the old & In with the new

    I have been thinking of replacing my 2012 RTS with a newer model. 2014+.
    I test drove a used 2017 today and really liked the ride.
    They wanted $25,000 for a 2017 with 1200 miles.
    I noticed that when I gave it gas slowly it felt like the clutch did not engage right away.
    I felt a vibration in my throttle hand whether I was rolling or not.
    What RPM do you shift at?
    Is the 2018 going to be that much better so I should wait?
    I'm looking for the 3 cylinder engine. I'm riding about 2,000 miles a month now.
    Originally I was thinking about a 2014-2016.
    They offered me $7,000 on mine before the inspection.
    How much do you think I could sell it for on a quick sale?

    Read your own post and consider why you would consider paying $25,000 for something with vibrations that you didn't have before.

    Test ride another triple...

    Having had two twins and now a triple, I love the triple - way fewer stops for fuel, half the servicing, six gears, and oh so smooth. Personal preference only.

    If you're talking about slowly rolling on the gas from a standstill, what you experienced with a slow clutch engagement is normal. Depending on how much vibration you're feeling in the throttle hand, that could be normal or not. Test drive a different triple for comparison purposes.

    In my opinion, $25k for a 2017 RT (even a limited) with any miles is too much. I am seeing them for around $23k new with no miles, which means you get the entire warranty. Now as for the $7k on your trade. With the exception that it might save you some money on tax, I would rather sell the bike for $8k to someone who wants to get into the spyder game, and let the dealer not rape the next guy on it. That is what I did on my 2014 RT. I sold it for a couple of grand more than they were going to allow me. That made the new owner happy to have a great spyder, me happy because I made 2 grand more than the dealer would give me, and the dealer happy, because they still sold a new bike.

    Start shifting at 3500 rpm. That is a good ballpark for the 1330. 998's like 5500. Each machine has a sweet spot (seamless shifts/no clunking).

    $7K trade in--they are trying to steal it. They are about $5K lower than what they intend to re-sell it for.

    I fill up with fuel 3 times a week. It's getting expensive to keep it

    That is what I was thinking. The problem is I don't have room on my trailer for 2 bikes. I would have to sell mine first and be without transportation till I found the new one or trade it in.

    AKspyderman I'm coming to visit next year. hope your still up there. We plan to get into Alaska the end of may and leave sometime around September

    I picked up a 2017 RT for a little over $17K this past summer from LeadersRPM in Kalamazoo, MI. The Spyder was still in the crate and when I took delivery it had zero miles on it.

    You have to look, and you may have to take a little trip, but there are better deals than what you found.

    I found online a few 2015 RT with GPS and extras, with low mileage for less than $17,000.
    The one I really like is in Pompano, 30 miles from my house. The problem is I'm 3,000 miles from home and will not be there till January

    if you look at the fenders, i would assume its a manual trans.

    BRP is offering 4500.00 in rebates on 2017's and earlier left overs,go for a new one as their also offering 3yr warranty

    Good timing. May-Sept is the best window for riding and sight seeing.

    Yep, it's an SE6! I know I got a great deal, and I didn't even try to bring them down on their price. It was an advertised price on their website.

    I spent a LOT of time researching. The local to me dealer wanted $31K+ for an RT Limited but I wasn't too interested in all of the electronics so I went with the base model. I saved $14K! It was worth the 900 mile drive on my 2004 Yamaha VStar 1100 to save so much money. Bonus: LeadersRPM gave me $1,700 for my trade in and that lowered the price even more. $15,900!

    Respectfully, if your concerned with the price of gas...I won't upgrade for what you will be spending.

    I want to upgrade, but the dollars spent really have nothing to do with economically how the dollars flow.... they have to do with comfort and maintenance.
