Both our Spyders are insured by Foremost. And, for the same coverage, Foremost was roughly 40 percent less than what USAA would charge - and I've been with them for 50 years!

Allstate here: House, cars, motorcycles (including Spyder), and umbrella. Spyder added 8 weeks ago at <$200/year. All very reasonable.

Allstate, here in Ohio. Cars, home, Spyder and umbrella. The Spyder is about $350 per year and they have always been good to cover us, even when I had my golf cart.

At first I thought that it was the AARP folks but Dave dispelled that for you. Personally, I dwould NEVER buy anything through AARP unless it was a last resort, but that is just me.

ALMOST nobody is getting the point...
By packaging your policies with one company: you will often get extra discounts.
I know that Safeco writes on the Left Coast: I've seen their policies.
Allstate is probably worth investigating also.
It's going to take some legwork: call your Agent, and explain the circumstances...
    Good Luck!

    Thanks Bob.
I contacted Safeco already - their quote was $1000 more per year than Hartford/AARP

The shopping continues. NOT -- my favorite thing to do !! I should look for a local agent really, and have them do the shopping.

I'm glad you said often and not always. I have my HO policy with Grange. Not sure if I have an umbrella add-on or not. My vehicles are all with Geico. Both of them are the lowest cost individually, and when added together are still lower than what the agent could find in a package price for me.

Currently, an umbrella policy with Farmer's insurance. No issues. State Farm before that. No issues. I see that you're looking to dump The Hartford and go shopping. They may have done you a BIG favor.

What a ludicrous policy! The Spyder is inherently safer than any 2 wheel vehicle that they do insure.

    Ignorance is NOT ALWAYS Bliss!

You should definitely shop all the policies around. We have all our cars, a HD and my Spyder with Farmers. They use Formost for the bikes.

Good thing you dumped The Hartford! I manage a towing company and The Hartford is the absolute hardest to deal with for their customers. I have seen them go to ridiculous lengths to get out of paying to repair their customer's cars. It is so bad that body shops will not do anything for The Hartford without payment up front.
Also one of their policy holders ran a red light and hit my wife. The at fault person was cited by the police and the Hartford tried to tell us we were at fault. They stated that it was just the officer's opinion as to what happened. My insurance (State Farm) had to pay for our vehicle and then sue The Hartford. It all worked out and The Hartford had to pay but it took years to get it done.

Hartford is a big, well-established Company; they offer lots of products...
But if it doesn't fit into their plans: you might as well look elsewhere!

And the AARP program is even worse!

I have state farm and cannot complain. I got my house and all other vehicles through them and the spyder increased my monthly payment by 8 dollars a month. 8 x 12 so thats 96.00 a year, cannot complain one bit. I think it may be time to shop around.

I have Markel Insurance for the spyder and my two Yamaha Venture Royale, never had any problem with them even when I had a claim. They beat everyone else's price on my Yamahas and the spyder. House, cars, and all other insurance is through AAA but they couldn't come close to the price Markel gave me.

Default Surprised Bob did not mention insurance is filed by state by each company

It sounds too stupid to believe, but it may be they made a filing in CA for only two wheels. Does CA accept Spyders as M/Cs? Having retired from the industry, there many many things which are outside of logic.

all on two wheels. More on four or more. Guess I may need to start multi-coloring for three wheels.

I figured that this fact is already known...

But if you don't think that your State considers a Spyder to be a motorcycle: try adding it onto your auto policy, and see what happens!

I had my Spyder insured by Foremost for several years. Got a policy that was much less money than going through AARP. I called a Foremost agent direct. AARP takes Foremost and Hartford rates and adds in THEIR markup to give you a price. That's how AARP makes money! Tom

Same here. 2 houses, 2 cars, 2 Spyders and a travel trailer. I recently looked into USAA and they were attractive on everything but the Spyders, which they pass off to Progressive. At that point, they lost me with all their exclusions and conditions, etc. I'm sticking with State Farm.

Yup. AARP makes most of their money off advertisers and insurers. Avoid their markup and deal with the insurers directly.

I have my truck and house with State Farm, but stop insuring my motorcycles with them years ago because they were ridiculously high, my agent told me they sold motorcycle insurance but didn't really want that business but if you wanted to pay the price then they would. I have Nationwide on my Spyder and they give a discount if you belong to the AMA.
