Default radiator additive for 2010 RT SM5

With the 998 running high RPM is anyone using a radiator additive to help keep the motor cooler? My RT is gunning from the middle to almost red hot mark when I'm in traffic or below around 40 MPH.

    Thanks for any info

I have never used an additive. Your temp sounds normal. In the winter mine doesn't get up to half way and in the summer it gets close to the red in stop and go traffic. Just make sure your fan is cycling.

    Default I have a 2010 RT SM5...

...and my temp only goes about 3/4 way up when sitting in traffic. Never been close to red... as suggested, be sure to check your fan to be sure it's cycling. After a long ryde and shutting off the Spyder my fan runs for a short time... does yours? Also check the fluid levels.

Everything checks out ok, all the fluids on the bike are scheduled to be changed at the 20K service so since it is getting change was thinking about getting the additive while they are doing the srevice anyway.

I pulled the air box and related plumbing out and put in the one from JT. I also did the Cat delete... temp needle rarely goes over 1/2 now...

I've used Engine Ice in liquid-cooled ATVs. That's about as extreme as the conditions can get: low-range riding in the middle of Summer, with a mud-clogged radiator!

The engine will heat up in high temperatures and idle (for long times) situations. We got stuck in a traffic accident on Maui, HI and after about a half hour, the engine went into limp mode and stopped. A half hour later, it restarted and drove just fine.

The radiator fan should be kicking in a bit before the limp mode thing happens though.

My usual in a traffic parking lot is just to shut the engine off when not moving. Never had any problems with that method.

    Default Additive

    I used: http://www.autozone.com/antifreeze-r...ool/302501_0_0

in my big Yamaha. Worked well. Somehow this makes the water "wetter" letting it get into all the spaces. Never thought about using it on my RTS, but I have the 1330 and it never runs close to hot (4 bars) stopped in traffic with the fans cycling. With my 2013 ST it did run hot, I didn't think to try this stuff at the time.

An additive is not needed or desired. If your temp gage is getting up to the red zone you have a cooling system problem that needs to be fixed. The RT, even the 998s have a more than sufficient cooling system. They show never overheat or go into limp mode even stuck in traffic.
