Joel the biker recommended LED
Well, I wasn't planning on replacing my headlights this soon, but I had one burnout on this last trip out west. I had read about the LEDs that Joel the biker recommended, so I thought I would give them a try, I mean for $32 a set, how can you go wrong. One replacement stock bulb cost more than that.
I have never used Tricled or Lamonster LED headlights, so I can't compare them to these, but I will say that these are much better than the stock bulbs. The installation was not bad, did have to notch the covers to get the ballast on the outside. I do hear the whine of the cooling fans when the bike shuts off, but it is very mild and can't be heard otherwise.
Here is a quick view of one stock one LED.20170718_214348[1].jpg20170718_180148[1].jpg20170718_211123[1].jpg20170718_213211[1].jpg
I likes them enough that I ordered the fog light bulbs also. I installed them last night and was going to take it for a test ride, but the spring on the garage door broke so the bike was stuck inside for the night.

Yes, the entire thing will fit inside the fog light housing.
Right side is easily accessible by just turning your wheel to the left and going in under the Tupperware right to the fog light housing. Nothing had to be removed.
Left side was harder, had to remove mirror, two panels, all pins to the frunk and push outward on that area to get fog light cover off. Install by going under again, but getting the cover back on took some work.
Personally I think it was easier than the headlights.

I put them on my wife's F3S and no modifications were required. The work really well too. The only thing I noticed is that the lights are a little on the yellow spectrum. Still nice and bright.

Hmmm... I didn't notice any yellow. I think they look about the same as my "A" arm light from Tricled.

I can only compare them to the stock bulbs, I have never used Tricled or Lamonsters so I would be unfair saying they are as good or better than those.
Sorry for the incomplete comparison.
Compared to stock, I love the difference!
Thanks Joel!

Just bought the last ones for my headlights. Hope they're as good as everyone says. One thing for sure.......they can't be any worse!

LED Lights
The original thread is closed for some reason. I don't know why. I bought and installed these but my RH headlight flickers. The Fogs work great. Easy install for Fog lights. Head lights was a pain cuz Joel say they a tight fit isn't a joke. I had to cut a bit off the little tab to position the bulb with the wire going opposite side so the plug will fit farther in and room for ballast under the dust cap. I think I will trim the housing to make it a better fit for the ballast. Hopefully maybe a loose connection for the flicker. I will have to take it all apart again to check it. YES I checked them before putting all back together but only a brief time just to see if it works.

Flicker
I tried them on my 2011 RTS and they had a flicker. Attempted to fix it with a load resister and capacitor to no avail. I have noticed that folks with a 1330 did not have an issue and those with a 998 had flicker. Has anyone else noticed that?

I bought a pair of these for my headlights last month but was planning on installing them today. With our Spyder being in the shop and then a trip to Florida, it's been pretty hard to get to them. I'm hoping they work well but for $17 you can't go wrong. I had a "coupon" from eBay in my Email that was good for $15 off any purchase over $30, so I figured why not. Guess I'll find out after we get back from our appointment with the eye doctor!

I was just going to buy these but not if they are going to flicker. Any other info on this?

I gave up on the Spyder, so I put them on my GMC Pickup. Work great there.

Threads like these is why we recommend and install the Lamonster LED headlamps and fog lamps. They FIT, the work perfectly with no flicker or electrical interference and there is NO cutting involved. The headlight and fog light rear covers go back on and seal up. Cheaper is not better. Your time has to be worth something and shop time definitely is.

Well, I got my "Joel the biker" LED lights installed! It took a lot longer to take the Tupperware off and on than it did to replace the lights. I was able to get everything back in the covers without doing any modifications. Checked for flicker and none was detectable, at least in the garage and ours is a 998. We'll be taking a ride tonight to see if this was worth the effort. I sure hope so because I think the factory lights suck supremely! I'll post my evaluation tonight!

I rode for a little more than an hour after dark. They are a big improvement over the original lights but I want more! They do light up the sides of the road much better and you can see farther down the road but not enough to go more than 50 MPH at night. They should be much more noticeable in the daytime as well.
I drive a Nissan Frontier pickup and the headlights on it are EXCELLENT after I put in these bulbs: http://www.osram-americas.com/en-us/...tar-ultra.aspx. They were good before and these made it almost as good as HID lights.
Of course, a lot of the efficiency of headlights is due to the design of the reflector. A really good bulb may only make a modest improvement in a poorly designed reflector and may not be as good as a mediocre bulb in a well designed one.
I think I'll see how much of an improvement the Silver Star Ultras make on the fog lights in a week or so. If I do and they're a good improvement, I may just try them for the headlights to see which are best.

LED lights Flicker
OK I put them in and the RH would flicker so I tore it dn and checked the connection. They still flicker so I removed them and went to Walmart and bought the Silver star Ultras and they are bright and don't flicker. "DUH" Way brighter than stock yellow lights.
The H11 LED fog lights seem to work OK. No flicker. So I would NOT suggest anyone with a 998 to get these. JMHO.

Mine is a 2013 RT-S SE5 and I don't have a problem with any flickering. They are imported from China and it probably goes without saying that quality control isn't one of their highest priorities.

Which do you think are the brightest? The LED bulbs or the Silver Star Ultras?

LED lights Flicker
Sorry I forgot to mention my bike. I have a 2012 RT-S SM5 998. Joel I believe you have a lot of time involved in this. Im only giving my experience on this.
Im gonna let my friend try these bulbs on his 2011 RTL SE5 998 to see if he has same problem. I have more time than money so it wasn't a problem to tear down the bike several times. I haven't been out in the dark yet as today was oil change day. And I'm still trying to find a leak from clutch. Its dripping on my floor and I no likie...
