What to do with old helmet
At the end of this season, I am planning to retire my current helmet. What does everyone do with their old helmets? Can they be "recycled?"

Old helmets
In the UK we have a charity called "Red Cross" who provide medical cover to all types of events including motorcycle events. I give my old helmets to the local branch so that they can practice safe helmet removal on dummies and on each other. Maybe there is a similar organisation in the USA.

After reading Flier Tuck's comment I contacted my local fire department/EMS service. The chief assured me they could use old helmets for training and those they did not need would be turned over to the local community college that conducts EMT training courses and always has a similar need. Good tip, Flier!

I tend to line them up on a shelf to help me keep track of the years and adventures that have passed into history. Getting to that age when I need reminders more than I'd care to admit. In fact, I've reached the age when I can forget what I'm doing while I'm doing it. Not an original comment but it fits.
However, EMT/Fire Dept. sounds like a more worthwhile idea.

I've done the same thing in my garage with many of my hardhats.
I think giving old helmets to a fire department or EMS personnel for practice is an excellent idea!

Donated to MSF ...
Couple of years ago we donated 3 full face helmets, 2 vented textile jackets, and 4 pair of gloves to the local Motorcycle Safety Foundation that operates a couple of miles away from us.
They were VERY pleased. We looked at it as some "paying back" to them for taking Debbie through the course some 20+ years ago.
