Default QUESTION FOR THE ELECTRICAL - GENIUS'S

This is what I want to do - eliminate the HUGH 12v plug ( and the necessary socket ) on my Sirius receiver .... I think I can put a Male RCA plug in place of the HUGH 12v plug and then put a Female RCA chassis socket in place of the 12v socket ..... I have the Male RCA and stripped it down to a center wire which is insulated ( I think + ) and bare copper wire ( I think - ) ..... I found this on e-bay ...item 252963605318 ( the chassis socket ) ......if you think this will work , how would I wire the Female if my assumption on the RCA male is correct ....... Thanks in advance ...... Mike

Any matching plugs will work, just keep the + and - correct.

    Default Go for it...

I like the heated gear plugs or the tender plugs. As stated keep your polarity straight...

Somewhat true. As long as they are rated for the current you will be pulling. I like the battery-tender type plugs for this sort of thing.

    Something like this https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I like both of your idea's ...... but the RCA female is a CHASSIS type fitting so I can just drill a hole and fasten it on neatly .... no flopping around .................. the reason for this is ..... I actually managed to SHORT my Sirius out while plugging the HUGH 12v plug into the socket ...... I didn't even think that was possible ..... Mike

Ok with yhat said look into these:http://m.ebay.ie/itm/DC12V-3A-2pin-P...EARCH:thumbup: still gotta watch polarity & amprage but does allow for a clean stable mount. Can even find some weather covers that are quit handy when installed properly. Here:

(Ive had good luck scraping them from old boom box radios, after ive located the matching male end power supply & would wire up however i needed. + to the inside on male end has less chance of shorting out if you miss the hole)

    Default USB power

Sirius also offers a USB style power plug for many of their docks and radios. Don't know if that would be of benefit, but that's the route I went. Much more secure, I was having issue with the 12 v plug end working its way out of the socket during rides.

Here is what I use. May or may not meet your intent. This plugs into the PowerConnect dock and uses USB power.

Joel the Biker let me know that inside the HUGH 12v plug was a voltage reducer ( 12v to 5v ) ..... I read the specs on the one from Amazon and it also reduces the Voltage so this looks the one to use .... I have to make sure the plug will work in my model Sirius ........ Thanks much ...... Mike

    Mike,
You said that you shorted out the receiver; do you need one?
I've got an Onyx sitting here in my desk that's hooked up to nothing...

    No explanation necessary

I'm sorry for not understanding but what is a HUGH 12v plug? Is it made by a company named HUGH? I'm not familiar with it.

.... It's OK, not everyone here understands me. Some ****** *** me and others even **** ******** !!!! me ...... But " HUGH " is a descriptive word that really doesn't need an explanation ..... Bob D. didn't even request a Pic , which really surprised me ........ There was a company named after Howard Hugh's .... I don't remember if they made 12 v plugs ... end of story .... I'm going for a ride now ...... Thanks for your response ....... Mike
