Default so bob i have a question for you on the new bike

if you decide to get a new bike, and your dealer wants your 14 now as a trade in so he can sell it, are you ready to do that. that can leave you with out a bike for quite some time

Never heard of a dealer wanting the trade before the new product is in their hands. Id never give up my ride until they produced the goods.

    John,
That's a GREAT question. Yes: we are ready to pull the plug on this Season in order to make the deal work!

Pleaese keep in mind that we did the same thing when we traded for the 2014...
We dropped the 2010 off in September, and picked the new bike up in February...

No, sorry, but it is YOU who was wrong.

It is YOUR fault if you let them get away with that.

And doing that is not typical at all.......with ANY kind of vehicle.

    It's about making the deal...
By giving them the bike much earlier: they are given more time in which to re-sell it.
That gives me another bargaining chip, and lets them know that I want them to have the best chance to make money on the deal.

Yes, what he did is not wise.

"Deals" like that can get you into a LOT of trouble sometimes.

What if the dealer decides he can't honor the deal after all........AFTER he has already sold your trade-in ??

People sometimes buy a used vehicle site-unseen. Some of those deals come out good but some come out REALLY bad.

Just because it works sometimes does NOT mean that it is a wise thing to do.

Giving a dealer your trade-in to sell before you have your new vehicle in hand is just......mmmmm.......not a smart thing to do, no matter what you think the justification IS.

Thats a little different than blindly just turning your machine in and having it up for sale while you wait. Hey if theres a buyer lined up, thats different. You sort of have to do it then.
As a consumer im definitely against it, but as a dealer? Makes perfect sense

    Default Works For Me

That's the same way I've always done it was make a good trade, give the dealer the opportunity to give me a better deal if I give the bike to them now.
But dealing with the same dealer over the years, you know what to expect.

    I did it with a 2008 to 2012 to a 2014-?

Planning to do the same thing this year but don't care much for the color change I would at least like a different piece of plastic on it even if
mechanical is the same. Just so you can see it's different from the previous year instead of just the color of the plastic. I was a little disappointed
coming back from the anniversary event.

Traded trucks last year at least between the two models I had on the new one has a different grill and tailgate.

    Bad advice is bad advice.

Pretending that it is a good thing to do doesn't change the fact that it is NOT a good thing to do.......for most people.

YOU, however, can certainly choose to do it however you want; just don't blindly advise others that it is a good thing for THEM to do......because it probably is NOT.

    ... provisionally!
My dealership is a family-run business that has been there for years. I've been dealing with them for almost a decade now, and I have seen their commitment to honest dealings, and trying to treat folks as more than just "wallets with desires".

the way i see it is that if i decide i want a newer bike, so my dealer wants my bike as a trade, but he wants it now. ok i give him my bike now. the price he offered me is the price i get no matter what. if i miss a little ridding time, oh well, i was willing to sell my old bike, so i did. if for some reason the dealer didn't sell my old bike, who cares, i wanted to get rid of it, and got the price i wanted to. by the time my new bike came in, the price he offered me for my old bike could of gone down. a scratch, some extra miles, a engine problem etc. so i am still glad i made the deal.
