Rear tire spin....
I was mildly surprised today. I was at a stop sign & got on the gas & Critter squawked at me. Does anyone know how long you can spin the rear tire on an RTS before the nanny kicks in? Thanks.

Why spin the tire unless you just want to get rid of the crap Kenda sooner rather than later?

Wow! You could definitely shorten the life of the rear tire then. I thought the nanny wouldn't let the rear spin. Thanks for the info Bob!

Yes your right Bob, nanny kicks in at 50kmph or 30mph (31mph for those who like to be accurate).
Up until then you can spin the rear tire and even get it going a little sideways without nanny being upset.
Kenda's are also ridiculously easy to spin/slide. Don't know how they managed to manufacture a tire that offers such poor grip and yet wears so quickly, quite an achievement:-)

On my 2013 RT Ltd, I managed about 40 seconds of 'moving slowly forwards while lighting up a 5000km old Kenda' before the tire blew, & the Nanny hadn't cut in at all in that time!! (it did as soon as the tire went tho!) But I was balancing a light partial throttle & still steadily moving straight ahead the entire time... Who knows how long I could've kept it spinning if it wasn't a Kenda that failed so readily?!?

I have done a 167 foot burnout with a little side to side action thrown in. Could have gone further but I ran out of parking lot at work.

Smooth & level bitumen surface on a warmish day - I cracked the throttle quickly to get the wheel spinning, then rapidly wound it back to about 1/3rd WOT, just enough to keep the tire spinning & the Spyder only just moving while still holding the bars fairly straight.... I didn't let it haul off fast or try for any donuts or drifting etc, cos I was trying to highlight how easy it was to get a Kenda spinning & show that once spinning they don't last very long! The tire was getting down pretty close to the wear bars & it was already a throw-away, but like all the Kendas mounted as OE on our Spyders, it really doesn't take too much to get them to break traction or ever take more than about a minute max to kill them!!
I'm just surprised that more don't complain about them, IMO they are barely marginal for traction at best even when brand new; they simply have WAAAAaaaaaayyy less traction than just about any 'real' car tire on the market! I've found that just about Any aggressive throttle movement from rest with the bars basically pointing straight ahead will get a rear Kenda spinning, only then most ryders use a little too much steering input & the Nanny jumps in - it only takes 10-15 degrees or so either way to upset the Nanny enough to get her to intervene; or the rider doesn't back off the throttle quickly & far enough to still keep the wheel spinning but also to maintain the Spyder's forward motion at a reasonable walking pace while keeping the overall speed difference between the front tire 'rolling speed' & the rear tire 'spinning speed' within the tolerances so the Nanny doesn't intervene too quickly for that either - she's really pretty good at keeping everything under control!
Bam Bam's 167 odd foot long burnout run is probably more than just a little further than any 'burn-out' I've achieved distance wise, but then I reckon I would often make a whole lot more tire smoke than he would ever while he's aiming for longer distances! While I reckon the quickest I've ever spun a Kenda tire from whoa to blow out was something under 5 seconds, even that short a time can pump out a helluva lot of smoke!
If you are planning on testing this yourself, my recommendation is to use someone else's tires & Spyder, unless you are just trying to get rid of what little tread remains on your Kenda before buying something better!

Tire burnout after Cat Bypass & Big City Thunder Baffle

Sending my ECU in to Monster Fuel in hopes of correcting the lack of off the line torque. It just may be taking off faster without the burnout but I miss it.

PS: I installed the Big City Thunder Baffles approx 1"+ closer to the header area(than shown in directions) but I doubt that should make a difference on back pressure torque.

We've abused our Kenda tires quite a little on ST, RS, GS and F3 models. 80 to 100 feet lengths. Never had one blow. And we generally run well over 12K miles with minimal thread remaining in the center. At the drag strip, unless one 'power brakes', substantial tire smoke with slow forward advancement on a flat surface is a myth. Going uphill, different story.
