Hi guys and gals! New spyder owner, new to the forum...
I have a 2012 RSS that is completly stock. I have lots of plans to make it mine. The 1st modification I'm thinking of doing seems like a pretty easy/minor one but I'm struggling. You see the particular model I have has the type of handlebars in the picture I've included. I'm looking for a mount for my iPad for a music source/gps. I see ALLLLLLL sorts of mounting options compatible for other types of spyder handlebars but I haven't really seen any good options for mine. The only mounts I've seen that will work are ones that attach between the grips and the actual handlebar. I want some thing that will put my iPad in the center. Any suggestions and or pictures of possible setups will be GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!
Thanks for taking the time to read about my problems.
This is my 1st post and I'm really looking forward to making some connections here. I'd love to network with all of you!!!!!
there are many ways to accomplish your goal....
however, there are things you'll need to do that you may not want to do...
1. drill holes in your handlebars.
2. ugly clamps & mounting hardware.
look at the item you want to mount, and search the web for a system that will hold your unit. look at that unit, and see what is necessary for mounting it to your handlebars. if the mounting is to your liking, then JUST DO IT...
give us more into, and we can give you more information to help you...
good luck, and welcome to the party....

if you look closely at the picture you can see how I solved your problem on my Spyder. Yes it is ugly. But it works,it isn't permanent(as in drilling holes) and it is cheap if you decide you don't like it.Sirius mount 1.jpgSirius mount 2.jpg
the hose clamps are about $5.00 bucks and the RAM mounts are about $15.00.
paint the hose clamps to match your bars as a way to make them less annoying. Me, I didn't care.

How about a couple of these correct sized collars, made of aluminum, drilled & tapped on the flat with a piece of aluminum flat bar connecting them from bar to bar, then drill & tap for a Ram mount (or two) in the middle?

Doesn't Can-Am have a GPS mount for that particular model? If so, you could modify that with various RAM mount options to accomplish your goal. Otherwise, as said elsewhere, you will probably have to go with a handlebar clamp or drilling holes in something to attach it. Some mods entail drilling into the bodywork at some point and if you don't like the look of the clamp-on options you may just have to do that.

...But unfortunately not for the 2012 and earlier RS's which have a different handlebar arrangement. Like the other manufacturers, Lamont has ones RT, F3, ST and later model RS's (i.e. 2013 and onwards). These all have exposed bolts on the top which make adding a mount easier, the older RS/GS's have a flat cover so nothing to mount to.
My solution was to get a ram mount normally intended to clamp around a bar or to a clutch reservoir (http://www.rammount.com/part/RAM-B-174U) and mount part of it to the bit of plastic at the front of the bars on either side of the ignition switch with a couple of small spacers to bring it out slightly so it would miss the top bit of the bars. I used it for my GPS but you could do something similar for a ram mount ipad holder and a couple of ram mount arms if you wanted it lower/more central. Here's a couple of photos that may make it easier to understand: DSC00829.jpgDSC00832.jpgDSC00831.jpg
The advantage of fixing the mount here is that there's no reason to drill the top cover.
