My only question is why would I want to wait until October 2017 for a 2017 model? The new 2018's are supposed to be announced around that time. Am I missing something here?
That is correct: They have to be ordered before about the middle of October.

Bob, I like the color scheme - understated, classy and just enough sass with the wheels to make a statement. But frankly, I think the dark side is calling you and you're ready to go over.
Since you asked...
Stretch the rider/passenger area about an inch or two, and give us more room!
Make the saddlebags and top trunk more spacious, and make the space more useful, by "squaring it up" a bit!
Give us shaft drive: a longer wheelbase will mean a longer belt...
And since the wheelbase is longer: you have room for a larger fuel tank!
How about a radio system that is easier to figure out?
Less reflectors, and more lighting!
reinforce that center strut for the windshields
Get your mirror mounting system from Russ!
Since all of this will add weight: bump the displacement and power a bit too!
