Brake Pad Thickness

Manual indicates minimum brake pad thickness is .04inches. I only see this stated once, am I safe to assume the same thickness for front and rear? Does anyone know the thickness when new?

I could measure the thickness of a new pad. But really, the important dimension is the thickness when replacement is due. Brake pads actually wear more quickly when new and wear less and less quickly as they wear. So when you have 1/2 of the pad left you actually nave more than 1/2 the life left in that pad.

0.04 inch is approximately 1 mm which has also been a listed wear limit. This is about 3/4 of the thickness of a dime. So the pads can be pretty thin before replacement is required.

I noticed a lot of squeaking from my brakes while applying them last week while at Homecoming. But the pads still look ok (I'm pretty easy on brakes as I prefer using engine braking.) Could it just be because it was so wet and rainy last week or should I look elsewhere?

Most general purpose socket sets come with only 2 spark plug sockets, 5/8" and 13/16". The wheel nuts on the Spyder takes the 13/16" socket.

If your pads are still good try a few good hard braking stops. Then drive normal.

That 1mm thickness is for all brakes on the spyder. RT's and semi automatic models tend to use up the pads a bit quicker. Ryding style can also affect wear. When installing new pad follow the seating in instructions to get the most out of them. BajaRon has great pads and disks from EBC...
