Just looked over your mod page and it is very cool. I have a couple of questions for you. With your J&M CB radio, is that antenna the original or did you buy a different one. The reason I ask, is that bjt and I have those units as well. You antenna looks hardier than ours were. Both of our were broke in no time and now with No Ground Firestik replacements we have very little range to hear each other or CB truckers. How is your unit working overall. For the money I wish I were happier with it.

The finishing nail dash removal tool is great! You should post that and the pics of it in the "Good Things" forum section. I'm gonna make one up real soon.

dltang - the J&M came used from a friend who's a radio nut. The antenna is not from J&M. We haven't yet checked the range. John had it installed on a Suzuki his wife rode for a bit and he said it had a "few mile range". Hopefully we'll get a distance test this week end. I'm satisfied with the ride where is it mounted and there is enough distance from the rider. From what I know of antennas, size generally matters - that's why I haven't change out the whips on my H-D.

Professor - I will post the 'tool' in the "Good Things' forum. The nail was a take from jlt's screw driver tool.

Bottom line - she has wind noise in her helmet and when we're at speed (above 45 mph) she can hear but not understand my voice. I can hear her fine up to several hundred yards.

She has the original windshield, and wears earplugs along with the helmet. The headset is a stock H-D, mounted into a HJC SyMax II. It will be a bit longer to get a new windshield installed to try again.

It's good enough to chat at low speeds for up to 100-200 yards and get our directions straightened out.

Update: helmet speakers were not in optimum location. Moved them to align with ear canals and voila! she can hear much better. Range is still short, 1/4 to 3/8 of a mile, but she can now hear the radio above the Micron exhaust, with her earplugs in and at speed. Some time ago she added the CHAD windshield which helped with wind noise.
