USB data port in dash?
I want to install a data port in the dash, so I can plug in my phone or a memory stick.
I have searched all through the forums and not found anything related to installing a USB data port. Power, yes; data, no. The search engine ignores 3-letter search terms like USB, so it's not been easy!
Has this been done successfully? Is it even possible? Would an unpowered USB hub work?

The only data connections are going to be for the buds system & or ipod dock to interface with radio. & that is all one may need to enjoy ryding the Why on earth do you want to do more data mess while enjoying a ride?! That would be worse than texting & driving

I don't do anything while I ride. I always pull over to a safe area before I set up Waze, send a text, or even initiate a phone call. (I have to. I need to put on my readers!)
However, stopping, getting off, and fetching the phone from the trunk is a pain. I want to pull over, stop, and sit there on my hind end and do whatever I need to do.
All I want is access to the USB port in the trunk, but I want it in front of me.

Sena 20
When I'm riding I use my sena 20 to answer phone calls if needed, but I never read text to much going on, while riding.

USB Port
Try a search with + signs to link important words.
"+USB+Port" Don't use the quotes.
If I understand your question you need a standard USB port somewhere in the front of the bike.
I have a USB port with a built in voltmeter installed in the switch panel of my ST. I power my GPS
and IPhone with no issues. The USB port is available on Amazon. I tied into a switched power wire
at the back of one of the panel switch sockets and run USB power thru a relay. Let me know if you want pictures.
Its too late tonight to get to the garage.

I just checked my service manual schematic & it shows the usb cable going directly to the radio with a plug that is shared with other wiring. Best way of doing it would be to tap into the wires as close to the radio as possible with another usb cable. Of course the cable would have to be of proper length to get to the dash. The shorter, the better. Good luck!

USB DATA PORT
Check out Pierre from canam assesories on you tube. He has a video of how to install one. I installed one in the open slot just like the video and it turned out perfect. Also installed the handle bar stainless steel bolt for mounting a ram mount. It all was fairly easy.
