My Spyderfest Adventure
Becasuse I am disabled and gettingf worse, My good pal Michael came along to help. Didn't know what he was getting into. For starters, he ended up doing the entire 4,000 miles of driving. We hauled my Spyder on my trailer. Leaving Portland Or. on Th., we made it to Twin Falls. Id. Because of my dog,Buddy it was Motel all the way. At twin Falls, they had us park with the Big Rigs (never again). Sometime that night my truck was broken into and 3 windows smashed. All tools and Floorboard hardware Waas taken. No windows available for sever days so we cardboard covered the front passenger window, and the rear drivers window. o right side mirror access. The windshield was smashed on the lower right side so Micael cold see pretty well.
When we got to Springfield in hevy rain, e went shopping for about $500 worth of tools. Fab. parts had to be over nighted by Fedex,OUCH! WE MANAged to do the xhow but much of the time it resembled a bowling ally. We did our duty and worked the whole rally. Michael did all the work because I needed to rent a wheel chair.
We left Sunday and did about 100 miles of detours because of flooding. We got our windows replace in Springfield (another $1,000.). All went well until we got back to Twin Falls. On a s top, Michael did a walk around the trailer and found the left wheel covered in reed dust and the hub smoking.
We limped into Less Schwab and was told the axil was broken and 5 to 10 days to get a new one . Didn't have the ime or $ to fix it. Went to U-Haaul but the only trailer that would fit couldn't go out of State. Went to a salvage yard and got $50 for the trailer. It was the 2 warmest day OF THE YEAR. The weather hat gotten much better and Michael volunteered to ride the Spyder the rest of the way home. Michael was very nervous about me driving the last 700 miles, but you do what's needed. Turned out the weather was in the low 80's and we made it to my home in Newberg, Or after a night in Boise.
A wild and very expensive trip to say the least. Will I go again, can't say but I can say my sales were the same last last yr. when I stayed home. I saw Len once in the hall. I I was his very first vendor in 2009 in Cuba and have bought two Spyders from him. He talked to my neighbor for quite a while but never looked my way. ..strange! More will be reviled. So far N|My is way ahead of Spyderfest and last yr.
Tide in comfort,
John

Wow... what a bad run for this trip. Sorry you had so many things go wrong. You're not alone in recognizing Spyderfest is far different than what it was back in Cuba.

You're trip and those awful experiences make me sad. I'm sorry that it went so badly for you. Makes our experiences with SF17 seem like nothing. Resiliency is what this life is all about and you seem to have it.

That sounds like the trip from hell.
I have only experienced Spyderfest by what I have read on this forum and the FB sites - but doesn't seem like something I would travel 4k miles to personally. I had my reservations for the event but cancelled on Wednesday because the weather didn't look like it would be enjoyable for me to ride and enjoy the Ozarks. I just purchased my Spyder last summer so I am really wanting to enjoy the ride - and to also socialize with the Spyder community.
There are more events on my calendar for this year ... hoping to have a good Spyder season.
Glad you OP made it back home safely and hope the rest of your year is better than your SF trip was.

You most certainly didn't have a pleasant trip. Join the club with the rest of us. But yours was the most painful for sure. Tom

Very glad to hear you made it home. Also sorry to here your heath is continuing on a downward slope. We only went to Spyderfest one time and it seems this is the wrong time of the year for this event. We had fun but its too far to travel for a event. The event is great for the locals though. Good luck!!
