After pulling this information up:

It might be worthwhile to consider taking precautions, if you plan to attend...

I like your post. Then, I had to laugh when I read #47. Actually, I didn't laugh.

That is an ubserd comparison. And no I am not kidding. If I leave my wallet or any "valuable" object anywhere out of my sight I have a chance to have someone else grab it an run.

Unfortunately these things can happen at big rallies. I have been to a couple of motorcycle and car rallies and they have been very safe probably due to all the security they had. I am sure Pitbull will look at some different options for next year

Sounds like this event is a way for Pitbull to make extra money if you ask me. A real event should not be dealer sponsored. The best Spyder event that I attended was the Durango Colorado Owners Event. Totally Dealer sponsored event. Very few vendors attended and they were positioned a few blocks away. Very well organized. All BRP accessories available to purchase, many events, many well trained BRP certified staff on hand to answer questions, many Demo rides available and many mountain group rides scheduled. I really wish BRP would do more of these. Events scheduled in City's are ok, but City selection should be carefully considered for many reasons, including safety.

We like the smaller cities for Rallys. We may eventually be able to do one here in Columbus, IN.

[QUOTE=Joel The Biker;1251533]After looking at Bob's link, Springfield MO is not a good place to visit. Very high crime! Must be some of the bad Ferguson MO people spilled over into Springfield. Joel let me ask you something ---- Have you ever attended a spyderfest event? Have you ever been to Springfield and Pitbull Powersports? I am thinking that the answer to both of these questions is no... Having said that you mentioned its your believe that --- "A real event should not be dealer sponsored. It should be sponsored by a motorcycle club or organization that will be putting the money to good use, like charity or motorcycle safety promotion".. What you fail to relies that actually there is a organization called MOGANG made up of probably the hardest working people you have ever seen organizing the event. Oh and let me say this -- The owners of Pitbull Powersports along with the MOGANG members do there share of donations that's for sure,, If you have Facebook check it out... Without getting into the weeds about the whole statement that you wrote "Sounds like this event is a way for Pitbull to make extra money if you ask me". No one there at the dealership is twisting riders arms to buy anything ---- There is NO pressure --- The fact of the matter is this -- They have everything in stock that people have either asked for and want right off the shelf --- by far they have the best Techs a dealership can have, and trust me when I say if the owner could close for them 5 days he would however there are riders who come from afar just to have the Technicians work on there bikes, Heck BRP techs are there if need be, it don't get any better then that. Finally you mentioned -- "Why do people go to these events in a city anyway? Country rides are much nicer. There are many hotels that are not in cities. These would be much better for events". --- Spyderfest is way past that, look up Cuba Mo where it started from, it is just like you mentioned --- Country -- Cuba could no longer handle the amount of people that was attending spyderfest so it had to get shifted. You can organize bike events in the Country with a small amount of riders but and I agree with you these are better however spyderfest is way to big to have it in a little town, or in the Country. I know you live a long distance from Springfield but I ask that possible one year you attend a spyderfest, maybe I'm wrong here and you have already...

All I can say the MoJo gang worked their butts off, when I was there in 2013. There was no pressure from pitbull or any of the vendors! Had a great time ! Yes I agree security needs to be improved, maybe some pressure for them ( hotels)to increase security or they don't get the business. They should be part of making this yearly event successful.

Maybe being proactive and taking everything that is of value to you in your room will go along ways. I never leave anything of value in my bike when parked at a motel. That being said, it is sad that we have to do that. I would think that anytime a motel has a large group come in that provide them with the income that the Spyderfest event provides, they would want to ensure that their property is crime free.

This was unfortunate for those affected. These things happen. I imagine that many dollars are spent by those attending. I would expect the city to step up patrols to assure those attending That they are responding to this incident and can feel reassured that the police are on it. Many of these type of events increase security. I know they do at Amercade, Daytona and Sturgis.

Sign of our time
Seems theft of everything is on the rise everywhere . I haven't read stats but here near Toronto everything from boats to trucks to construction trailers are being stolen at a much higher rate the last couple years , many motorcycles ... 2 cars in my neighbourhood were looted 2 nights ago in a neighbourhood where it just never happened before . I've had two trucks stolen ( with all my tools ) in 3 years staying at hotels for work . A guy I work with just had his truck and all tools stolen from the Oshawa Centre Mall a couple nights ago while working. Integrity is down and crime is up I'm afraid ....

After reading this post as a new Spyder owner I don't think I will be attending Spyderfest. I have attended the Sturgis Rally 27 years in a row now and this year will be 28. Have stayed in many different hotels and have NEVER had anything stolen from the bike. I don't understand why you keep having it there!

Oh it happens at Sturgis as well, trust me you may have not had it happen to you or heard of it happen but it does happen. There are thieves in every state and town.

Amen! Wherever any big event has been, it happens. IMO, opting out of a fun rally like Spyderfest because of possible theft or vandalism risk is cutting off one's nose to spite one's face.
Artillery lends dignity to what would
otherwise be a vulgar brawl.

not pointing fingers but...
sure did seem to be a lot of "homeless" persons around the town this year compared to previous years in Springfield. Like I said, not saying they are responsible for what happened but should possibly sparked a little more interest from the LEO's??? From what I herd, not much was actually stolen just pilfered--sounds like looking for who knows what...
As far as using deadly force, I agree, you can't just shoot someone for thieving your property but you could hold them until authorities arrive if ya get the jump on them...
