Fair price for my Spyder
What would you consider to be a fair price for a 2012 RT Limited, 24,500 miles, 2 years left on warranty, in San Diego area?
I really need to get this thing sold, so I'm about to post it again in Cycle Trader and bump it here in SpyderLovers. I originally asked $18,500, but reality is slapping me around, so I come to you good, fair, and honest folk to help me set a price. (Am I asking for trouble or what?)

Tough call... I am out here too with a 2011 and 27K miles.
Out here it is not going to be easy. Dealer trade in you will be lucky to get $6K +/- $1K.
Selling on your own, $10K max but expect to get about $9K or less.... Based on what I see on Craigs list out here.
The 1330's (2014 models an up) are now for sale used for about $18K or less.... Having the 1330's now on the used market have killed the 998 engine models price.....
Because of this value loss out here in Ca., I will keep mine till it is worth about nothing.
My .00002 cents...
2011 RT-S SM5 - Black
Bought June 2013 with 450 miles. 27K on 8-1-2017.

More to come

Gee, I think pricing has so much to do with location, and available supply of used Spyders, that without
searching the classifieds for Comparable units, I couldn't tell you. Me, I would probably look for comps.
shouldn't be too hard there in Cali. Then realize all of them, are FOR sale , not SOLD, and price accordingly.
Makes striking a "trade deal" look pretty good. Good luck.

Best bet
Finless makes a good argument for selling a Spyder in Cal. Unfortunate as it may be.
Make up your mind what the bottom dollar is you'll take for it. Then price it to create interest, and see what happens.
Good luck.
Identify what you have control over and find peace with what you don't.

We tried to sell the 2011 A & C with 23,000 miles back in 2015 for $14,000. No takers or interest. Akspyderlady is still driving it. I figure its worth about $12,000 today--maybe. An ad placed, 300 looks, and no takers--means price to high. With the three cylinders out in 2014--that makes the market even a bit worse. The $14K ask was about $500 less than trade in at the time.
It's looking like we are keeping it until our riding days are over.

Sorry Myron, But you will have to be somewhere under $10,000 to get it sold. Low book retail on a RT SE5 with sound package and convenience package is 10K. People are always leery to buy from an individual and you can not sell it for what the dealer does. You will not get dealer low retail. Sad but true. If it sells for more PM me and I will eat a pound of CROW! Check out NADA that is what the buyer does and also what the bank looks at to make a loan on it. The loan is usually 20-30% lower than low book.
I see you purchased it in May of 2016 and then purchased a 2016 in December. Maybe you should have traded it in.

The eBay sold listings pretty much confirms what you're telling me. There is a wide range of prices; the highest was $18,000 for a 2013 with 5825 miles. A flood salvage 2013 bike went for $4,000.
I suddenly don't feel so good.

The salesman discouraged me from trading it in because of the hit I would take. He mentioned taking it on consignment, and he said their fee was around 3 or 4%. I'm going to go back and discuss it with him.

One and done - never thought I'd say that, but
many of us have been down this road before.
It goes like this.
The happiest two days of my life.
To think I just spent half as much in repairs recently as it is worth makes me
And, to top that off. It's still broke.

Hate to give dealers anymore than they have stolen already but this might be your best bet. Of course the dealer/salesman discouraged the trade in because they know a used one prior to 2014 would be hard to sell. IMO as I did with my 2013 I traded in and took the hit up front. It was easier to swallow later on. I lost about $6000 in ten months to trade up to a 2014 leftover. I had numerous heat and fume problems with mine and figured my health was worth more than my money. I was a test dummy for BRP and after three modifications and weekly reports I gave up on there being able to fix the problem and traded it off. I did not know of this site until after my 2013 purchase and could have avoided my mistake and BRP's.
Life is too short to ruminate over this. Get rid of it for market price or below and get on with your life. It's sometimes hard to swallow our mistakes (and I have made plenty) but we all need to move on. Like I said , Life is short.

I just sold my 2014 Rt sm6. I was told that the sm models would be harder to sale. But if you price it right, anything sales. I would look to sale at the same price range that i look to buy. That would be between trade in and private party value. I would never try to sale above that, and i would definitely never buy above that. When people mention kbb value,i already assume they are asking too much,so i move on.
BTW, my spyder sold on the second day, to the first person that saw the bike. I fell good because i got what i wanted, and they got a good deal on a great bike.

The right selling price is the ticket--even if it seems painful to the seller.
I lost money on all my trade-in's. Had to have newest and best for a while there. Have had a lot of smiles in the miles, but checkbook no longer has unlimited funds. Conservative is now the way. Que Sera Sera.

Hmm... wait a minute, here comes an idea... I would be open to a Spyder swap - maybe something sporty for my sweet wife who won't ride pillion for all the tea in China. My RT for your RS, ST, or F3?
