    Yes, most probably!

The reason for the 'most probably' is that there can be some differences in the 'actual sizes' of different brands/types of tires that have exactly the same nominal size printed on the sidewall, but it's not usually a massive variation - altho it has been known to be as much as 18mm in dia &/or width tho, so can definitely be significant but still within the scope of the available space & manageable by the Nanny! But you might hafta physically check or compare just to make sure....

All that said tho, I know of & have personally witnessed more than one person here in Aus running tires of those makes in 175/55R15's or even 175/60R15's on their early F3's, so it has been done successfully by some. And everyone I know who is running the larger sized tires in those brands is still extremely happy at the better ride, handling, & performance they get from them too!

It's impossible to get just a "yes" or "no" on the generalisation of a "175/55 15" for the reasons Peter A has given, Steamer. You need to narrow it down to a couple of brands that you feel fit your requirements, and then ask if people are actually running them and which one they like best. That will avoid the disappointment of buying a tyre, having it fitted, and then finding it doesn't fit under the guards.

The brand of tire may impact the truth of this answer, so look to see what has been proven to fit!

    Default 175/55-R15

Thanks for all your replies. Narrowed it down to the Hankook or Yokohama because of your responses.
I have stated before and will state again, the knowledge and willingness to share information on this forum is a blessing. I don't need to rely SOLEY on service department recommendations.
