Default transaction fees and exchange rates

when going to Canada from the USA use a card with these features, best daily exchange rates, and zero transaction fees

like a "Chase Sapphire Preferred Card" tell them I sent you and we both get some points.

If no special CC with rates then a good idea to go directly to a Canadian Bank and exchange some of your US for Canadian (aka Funny Money).

Gas stations and restaurants along the way will gouge you on the exchange rates. When you give them the Canadian--up front--then you are good to go.
