Powder Coating Soyder Wheels
I would like to powder coat my wheels. The front wheels anyway. The back is basically invisible. And the cost to remove, de tire, re tire and have reinstalled is a whopper. So... front wheels only. I know where locally to get it done but then got to reading about powder coating and found this warning: do not powder coat forged aluminum wheels. Does the '14 Spyder RT have those wheels? Anyone had their wheels powder coated and no issues? I had thought about hydrographic painting but don't know if that would last very long, even clear coated with 2K clear coat which I think is a resin but don't know for sure. At www.hgarts.com there are some fantastic patterns. It was recommended that I not hydro paint, but.....
and it would also be cool if I spelled sPyder correctly

I have powder coated many things including aluminum rims. Any metal can be powder coated.

Make sure they know what they are doing. And whatever they do, NO NOT LET THEM POWDER COAT THE AREA OF THE WHEEL THAT TOUCHES THE HUB!!! Read my other messages about this and research online what happens when powder coat mixes with steel.

Not a problem....
You will not have a problem with the powder coating as long as you make a point to let them know the above....Some folks have had the rims glue to the hub maybe cause the paint was not cured or the heat of the hub affected it but best not paint that area or once you get them back clean that surface for a good fit...

It isn't a heat issue. They will stick even if you don't move the wheels at all. It has something to do with the aluminum in the powder that reacts with the steel in the hub. I had mine stick right after putting them on and never moved the wheel. I learned my lesson, not all powder coaters are wheel experts and not all wheel experts are powder coaters.

Right, just remove the powder coating from the mating surface, or have the powder coater mask the area. It isn't rocket science.

Never said it was rocket science, just ignorance on my part. I took the steps necessary to rectify this situation, I was just trying to help someone else avoid the same mistake.

I had my powder-coated wheels replaced with another set. The paint had pooled in the lug holes and they couldn't get a wrench around the nut. Also, some had cracks and chips in that area.

Sorry, I wasn't pointing you out, just saying that it is a simple fix. One that the PC place should have known about.
