When you said " pedal " ... I assume you meant " PADDLE " as in SE - trans ........... if so, this trans is designed to downshift automatically in any MODE ..... Just for info purposes the APRILLA - which uses the Rotax engine & transmission has it's computer programmed to be FULLY AUTO with the ability to go fully MANUAL ......and with the same trans we use ..... It's done in the computer ...... at least this is my understanding of it ...... Mike

Ditto on automatic downshifts, with or without ECO mode on. The down shifts seem to be pretty much perfect on both the 998 and the 1330. I very rarely downshift my SE5 or SE6.

Agreed, I rarely feel the need to downshift manually.

The main time would be to initiate an overtake when I want to be in a lower gear for more performance.

That's proabably my only crticism of the SE6 transmission - no 'kickdown' as you get in auto vehicles. Would be nice if it detected a sudden twist to full throttle and went down a couple of gears by itself to get into the powerband.

Personally I always down shift my self, except from 2nd to first at a stop. I prefer to be in control and there are many times going through corners that the computer and I may not be in sync, so I take the decision away from the computer.
