I had an oil change on my 2014 RT at 7,500 miles and the service manager (1st week on the job) showed me the drain bolt that is magnetized with a few metal shavings. He admitted it was his first oil change and was a little concerned and was going to report it to BRP.
Cannot speak for the 1330 but the 998's a majority had some on the magnet on the first oil change.
I did... After that it was always clean.

Some members have posted some pics of actual shavings ..... and were told NO PROBLEM ..... frankly it would scare the crap out of me ...... On my 1330 I had some metal particles ( looked like power / tiny grains ) .... after that just a slightly different color when rubbed off the magnet ...... I think something at the first oil change is normal .... but after that I would be concerned as to why this is occurring ...... jmho ..... Mike
This is what was on my friends 998 on first oil change!
I had less on mine but similar metal..
I was told by a few dealer mech's that it is from the clutch pack and left from assembly.
Not sure if that is true or not but seems this is very common on 998's.

I wouldn't be too concerned. Keep it under the BEST warranty coverage for as long as you can.

Any comments, is this pretty standard or?
Imo, if it was just fine powder & not excessive then you have nothing to worry about. On a new engine the cylinder is wearing down the high points on the rings & what is worn off ends up in the oil. I don't think I've ever removed a magnetic plug that didn't have iron fuzz on it. If the particles are larger than powder then you have something to worry about. You might want to consider changing your oil sooner than the schedule calls for just to see if the problem continues. Good luck.

I would be more worried about the service departments lack of knowledge.
Forget it, go out have fun riding. I think you will find a clean second oil change. Seams like BPR has a great motor with the 1330
Good luck kenn
Both my 2008 GS and 2012 RT had similar looking shavings. Both ran like champs.
