The need longer courses, so that stamina becomes more important.

They dumped the motocross bikes and are doing it on ice skates... sure saves on gas , oil and tires...

It's a Minnesota and points north thing.... Ice cross downhill is the fastest sport on skates. Gets tons of media buildup up here, as you can see the OUTDOOR venue is jammed. The streets are packed with spectators as well as contestants.
