Harley Sound
I'm just curious. Has anyone tried to make their 998 Spyder sound like a Harley? It seems like that with the correct muffler that it maybe could be done or at least close, after all the 998 is also a V Twin, maybe not the same angle. This is just one of the many random useless thoughts that rattle around in my head at times, and I'm not sure why anyone would even want to do this.

The 998 is a high reving multi valved overhead cam motor. The Harley is a slow turning,2 valve, OHV. They will never sound the same.

Well....
You could match the decibles eliminating the Y pipe and muffler or maybe match a non-harley type or even a parallel twin...

Never going to happen. It is impossible as the 45 degree twin has a completely different firing order than the 60 degree v twin

Harley Sound
It is impossible because of the degree difference in the 2 engines. one is 45 degree and the other is 60 degree. The 45 degree engine firing order is #1 cylinder first then the #2 cylinder. On the 60 degree engine the #2 cylinder fires first, SO, basically, the sound would be backwards. PLUS, 45 degrees goes brooooom, and 60 degrees goes roooooooom, HUGE difference. Plus the spyder is too fast for the Harley sound, that is why it has aerodynamic body panels on it. The Harley sound, well, not aerodynamic and therefore multiple things start to fall off giving you the HARLEY SOUND. Thats all I have.

i love the way a Harley sounds, all you need is a 12 volt lighter plug, and go to 2:12 on this video

Hi Cuzn,
I wonder how that would work, if you plugged it into the top trunk power port?

Exhaust
The closest I have seen to a Harley Exhaust on a Spyder is the exhaust from Spyder Attitude (Spyderattitude.com) a sponsor to this site. They have sound bites there of their exhaust if you want to hear what their exhaust sound like.

Why?
why would you want to? Once in a while I ride with a bunch of them and they are so loud . I looked down at my speedometer and discovered I was doing 80 in 5th gear because I could not hear what my SpYder was doing😬

I had one of those along time ago. The wind noise by itself is enough to cause hearing problems.
Between riding and former employment I have some hearing issues already.

My hearing has become a bit more "selective" over time also...

I put on the dual's from Spyder Attitude along with Lamonte's pipe. I can drown out Harley's if I want too.

just go purchase a dozen Harley t shirts and few Harley tattoo's and then park your bike in the garage and don't ride it much.
you'll save money in the long run
