Default Clutch pull on 2014 RS

I looked at a 2014 GS with 1500 miles on it. Not running I pulled the clutch and it was tough for my weakened nerve damaged arthritic hands, I was rather discouraged, but with it running it was light and pleasant to pull, does this sound familiar to you SM5 guys? One of the features I like about the Spyder is the electric shift. I had a Honda NC700X with paddle shifters and loved it. But this 14 RS may be too good to pass up. Do all manual shift Spyders act like that? Clutch pull lightens up when running? I know my 14 Goldwing Valkyrie doesn't.

    Default Here's the thing....

The GS/RS/RSS have a vacuum assisted clutch system. Once the engine is started it kicks in you also have an adjustment for reach and travel. I like it farthest out with the shortest travel. Two fingers with and inch and shift. There are a few good deals out there but if you can't find one the sm5 is my choice...

    Default Clutch Pull

What you describe is the same for my 2013 ST SM5.

That is a pleasant surprise, I won't be so fussy if I come across a good deal on an SM5. I know about adjustable levers, I need the clutch to engage close to handle bar, the tips of my fingers are almost useless/dead. I have a very weak squeeze, nerve damage in neck, operation didn't work 6 yrs ago and has gotten worse. Reason for going 3 wheels.

May suggest waiting for a SE5 or SE6. I would guess your fingers are not going to get better. A semi would be much better for you. Also most Spyders are semi auto's so it won't be hard to find one.

Once rolling the SM5 also shifts super easy without even using the clutch.

There is (or was...) an outfit that could make you a custom clutch lever.
    Pazzo racing?
Let me see if I can find them.

EDIT: I found them for you!

I think if it comes to the point that I could no way pull a clutch lever it will be time to hang it up I do fine with my 14 Valkyrie clutch. I usually have more than 1 bike, last year I had a 09 Super glide, that clutch was easier than the Wing but the brakes were typical HD, was not easy to pull the brake lever hard enough with those useless brakes people pay top dollar for. So, I'd rather have an SE but would not pass on a good deal SM either.

I've used Pazzo style levers in the past. Usually the el cheapo fleebay ones for 30 bucks and they worked great but the Spyder uses the same adjustable levers as Honda and others use as OEM. I have no problems with those.

I have heard that the clutch on the F3 is hard to pull so you'd certainly want to steer clear of the SM model F3. While I personally love to shift manually and have had SM models on all of my Spyders, I would have to agree with the others and advise you to go with an SE model. Riding in pain is never a good thing.

I don't have any pain in my hands, its weakness in all 4 extremities. Arthritic pain in back is severe but only while standing and walking, I can drive cross country 2wice a year in my truck or car and love it.

!Looking at a 2010 SE tomorrow with 2500 miles! $7500!

When I looked for an RSS, all I could find were SE5 and I really wanted an SM5. Finally found one. SE5 should be easy to find, although it sounds like you may have found one!

I did buy the 2010 red and black SE5 w/2500 miles $7500, tall OEM window with lower deflectors, 1" riser, Brand new Ultimate seat with 1 backrest, I will be selling or trading that, it is too small for me, I think it is a mid or close cut. Its been raining in AZ so I won't have it home till Monday.
