    Default Air bag function

If the rear shock is replaced with a unit that has a preload function(Elka), then what is the air bag for ? I thought it was the preload function on the stock shock.....

You may not need it with a shock that has adjustable preload. That is what it does for the stock shock, help carry the load.

I talked to Elka about that very thing about a year ago. Even with one of their rear shocks, the air bag is still required. Otherwise, the rear spring would be required to be too stiff.
