Default Reliability on the 2016 Spyders

Since I am considering buying a 2016 or 2017 Spyder, I would like to hear from folks that have those year / model spyders about reliability experiences.
    Thanks in advance.

It'll be tough to find the newer bikes with enough miles for an accurate assessment. You might do well by looking at the experience of the Spyders from 2014 and on...

2016 F3 Limited, 21,000 miles in 10 months. All service requirements followed. Installed BRP belt tensioner at approximately 15,000 miles to reduce belt resonance. Warranty covered replacing steering shafts that corrected some "slop" that had developed in handlebars around 14,000 miles. No other issues. All around great performance.

    Default Here's the thing....

You are mainly looking at the frame and power plant and those have been very reliable since they came on in 2014. Ann from squared Away probably has one of the highest mileages on this power plant and has had no problems as far as we know. There were some minor issues that have all been corrected so you really have no reason not to go for any of them you are looking at. For your own satisfaction have the vin# checked for all updated on older models and your good to go...

Until we see a picture it didn't happen. LOL

I've got 96,000 miles on my 2014 RTS SM-6 and it has had no issues. Normal maintenance and it is ready for another 33,000 mile year.

I had thought I'd reach 100,000 this month but it will be in March.

Thank you everyone - it's good to hear about reliability from the real world riders.

Any good video's of the spyders on the tail of the dragon or other twisties?

I have a 2015 RTS and don't think much has changed from 2015 to 2016. I'm currently approaching 10,000 miles and has been trouble free.

The early production of the 2014 RT had a lot of parking brake motor failures, as mine did. But that has been rectified. There have been almost no comments here about problems with 2016 models.

Here is a link to my video of me running the Dragon last year. Pull up the description of the video and it tells about general speeds and such. The last 5 minutes of the video feature the tighter turns as I approach the NC border.

    Default 2016 and 2017 RTS

I purchased a 2016 RT-S last July. Put 3100 kms on it, and the motor fried. I am told it was a one off issue, but I cannot say. After some haggling, I got a 2017 RT-S (I paid a bit more for the newer model) and put 7800kms on it between Aug and Oct last year... no issues.

2016 F3 T, 1700 miles, no issues. Great bike, wish I had more time and didn't have a broken hand and wrist.

    Default reliabe

I have a 2014 RTs and with 2 Minnesota summers of riding, I have almost 60,000 miles. No issues, excellent spyder. Also had a 2012 RTs, and a 2008 Gs. Total miles on all 3 spyders 125,000. Only one issue on 2012 that was fixed under warranty. So far tons of fun.

2015 F3. Not run hard with 10K miles. Bad piston (just stopped working). Bad transmission (metal shards found in case). Bad paddle shifter (stuck in gears). 10K in repairs covered by warranty.

My 2016 Spyder RTS now has 2500 miles on it and absolutely no problems. My 2012 had many problems within that modest mileage. I am well pleased with the new bike.

I have a 2012 RT Limited. It has 49,000 miles on it. Only issue was Throttle Bodies changed out on Waurentee at 12,700 miles. Other wise, no issues other than front end alignment. Finally had Laser alignment which seems to have fixed the front tire inner wear. Oil consumption is now about one quart every 5000 miles. I expect many more fun miles on this RT.
