    Default My New Spyder

I read the newbie thread and not sure when I should change the oil or where.. I purchase a 2013 CAN-AM SPYDER ST-S SE5 for 13250 which has 3k on her.. Everything is like new. Corbin seat with factory backrest.. Should I attempt to change the oil myself or bring this to a dealer? Also any ideas allways welcomed.. Thanks Guys..

    Default Welcome welcome....

to both the spyder world and this site....If you know when the last change was done BRP has recommended changing oil and filter/s at 4,600 intervals. If they had the first service done at the recommended 600 miles you would be due at 5,200. I don't wait that long and if you don't know when it was done go ahead and change it. As to who does it will depend a on your comfort with the task. The manual will give you the details...

Besides new to you bike may be daunting, you did not describe your skillset or mechanical comfort zone. Beside the extra stuff that could & should be inspected at the same time some of the Tupperware is off. It would be good idea to visit a dealer talk with techs & see if they can offer you better verbal description of the task & what not.

Congrats on your new purchase, and welcome to the site. I also recently picked up a used 2012 RS to go along with my 2014 RT. Since I purchased the RS used, I will be taking it in to the dealer for it's first service so that they can inspect it really nice and let me know the overall condition of things to look out for. After that, I will probably be doing oil changes myself. Right now I am waiting on a break in the weather so I can get the service done. Good luck.

    Very nice!

My wife picked up one a couple months ago with only 1400 miles on it. I changed the oil yesterday. It isn't hard, though the bodywork removal takes a little time.

Congrats & Welcome! Take some time to read the owner's manual. There's a whole lot of information in it that you will find useful, including the complete maintenance schedule. You've year round riding, enjoy and be safe.

and Post #2 has you covered on the numbers information. It's all about the mechanical ability. I have yet to change the oil on my own. Plan on spending $300 - $350 if you have the dealer perform services. Labor per hour is about $120. My dealer, last year charged $130.

    Default New Spyder

Glad you have joined the group of enlightened riders. You will find a problem with the Spyder right away, people will want to talk with you when all you want to do is to fuel up and go riding.

I bought my 2013 with 6900 miles onit around the first of September, short riding season, but have about 3,000 miles under my belt. I will fire it up around the end of Feb.

I think talking with the Dealer's tech will be helpful and for peace of mind maybe let the dealer do the first service and make sure everything is first cabin.

    Enjoy the ride.

    Good Luck

    Very nice.

May i I suggest you get the Airflow Panels, free from the dealer.

My first 09 RS was bought used, privately. I spent the $ for a thorough dealer service and 'full physical' - gave me peace of mind...
