Here is what I came up with to mount my older Garmin to my 2011 RT. Used 4 wire ties (two hooked together) and attached to handlebars. Worked like a charm and is easily removed.

Use the Ipod on 2011RT Works great. Just get a case and Velcro to side of trunk. Stays in place and out of the way.
