Thanks for the help guys. I got ahold of Ricky Sutton through email and he is putting me on his list.
Hopefully that will help with the heat I hear about. Just need to get one before next summer....

Yes I did. And went to those websites that were referred to and found nothing. But thanks for asking.
I understand that. But I'm using this thread as a reference while re-assembling my engine. I just want to point out to anyone that ends up doing the same will at least double check that note.
In this post he mistakenly states that there is a bolt hole that will accept the crankshaft locking pin and lock the crank. It is actually on the clutch side of the engine. At least that's where it...
Is anyone still offering a cat delete pipe for the 998's anymore? I'm looking for one for my 2012 RTS
I just installed the new chains and tensioners. The manual says to lock the crank at TDC for rear cylinder and align all indicated timing marks and install chains and tensioner. I did that. Then it...
According to the manual you set the timing up on the rear cylinder first, which I did. Then turn the crank 300 CCW then install the crank locking pin, which I’ve done. Then set up the front cylinder....
I am assembling my engine and have installed the chains and tensioners. With timing set correctly. When turning the crank by hand the tensioners back off and the chains slip. So it jumps time. I...
No. A washer goes on top of that gear, then the other gear is above it
It can’t be up higher. It needs to mesh as it does with the intermediate gear. Then there is a keyed gear that goes on top of it that meshes with the crank gear
Here's a short clip of it if that is allowed. Never mind. It wont load
I am reassembling my motor and the water pump gear and intermediate gear don't seem to be driven by the balance shaft that the driven gear is on. can't figure out how it works. As far as the...
I took my test on a 1979 Honda CX500 Deluxe
This is a very good write up. Thank you to the OP for posting alll this good information. I am just starting to reassemble my engine and transmission and will use this for reference. Awesome work!
I think if it were a wrist pin circlip it would have seized the engine as it has no way out other than between the piston and cylinder wall, which doesnt afford the space to drop that clip without...
So I finally finished cleaning all the engine and transmission parts, in all I have about 16 hours in cleaning everything. And have gotten a good look at almost everything.
I have a pretty good...
Thank you for the reply. It’s not illegal to replace an engine in Arizona. I have two salvage vehicles that have different engines. They both were licensed at the MVD through a VIN inspection. They...
I bought a new/used case, both sides. But only my clutch side case is bad due to the oil pump cavity being damaged.
For grins I mated my good side case to the new side case athat I need and they...
That’s great, thank you.
Hi BajaRon,
Does the shim go behind the clutch pack? I probably do need it if its required for the swap. Is it available on your site? Or can I just go through you?
Thank you
Rick
I agree about friction modifiers possibly being the culprit. Also I wonder if a full synthetic oil can cause that and maybe that’s the oil in yours. I know on Victory motorcycles that some people...
I havet seen anything online about anyone installing a big bore in one of these. It doesnt mean someone hasnt of course, but if the parts are available I bet they arent cheap. This Spyder is for...
It’s a 998. 2012 RTS
They did still have a 998 SE5 engine too in 16. Might have been the last year. I think the 1330 came out for the touring models in ‘14? I’m still learning about these bikes.
I looked at the BRP parts schematics and almost all parts are the same parts number. There are a couple parts with different numbers. I picked up a 16 clutch pack that is in pristine condition and...
Thank you for pointing to a solution. Hopefully my pics show up now.
I posted pics with my last thread. But a moderator apparently removed them. Did violate the terms of this website?
I finally received a puller for the flywheel so I could finish disassembling the motor. Its a good thing I disassembled it too. There were chunks of aluminum from the broken clutch basket inside. It...
So I have the engine largely disassembled. I’m waiting on a flywheel/rotor puller so I can remove flywheel and split the cases. I have found chips in several areas while disassembling so far. So I’m...
:roflblack: Its was just art when I bought it. Im aiming to reverse that situation.
