Hi all-
I have had to add oil a few times since adding the JT kit. About 1/2 to a quart every 1000 miles. Is it possible I am losing a bit of oil everytime I ride?
Thanks
Jeff

From your profile I see you have a 2008 model v-twin 998 motor. These engines use oil, always have and always will. I have an RS 2012 with the JT air mod and a K&N filter and it did not change the oil consumption. Rule of thumb, check it every 500 miles and add as needed. I do after a weekend of ryding...
What Gene said.
The 998 engine was well known for oil consumption. Nothing scary bad, but it was the rare engine that didn't consume a quart every 4k miles or so, or more. These engines were borrowed/sourced from Rotax and originally designed and built for Aprilia motorcycles, so it was an older design even when new to the Spyder.
FWIW The newer ACE 1330 are equally well known to consume virtually no oil at all.
I agree that the 998 V-Twin uses oil. But 1/2 quart every 1,000 miles is a bit excessive. I go through less than a quart at 5,000 miles. I would check to be sure you're not sucking oil out of the crank case through the breather tube. This is a good possibility.
All good advice above. Had four 998's and all use(d) oil. The 1330 does not use any oil between changes.
