Yes, the dealer should take care of the issue for you, it is covered "UNDER WARRANTY". Deanna

I had the (DESS) replaced twice (both times under Manufactures Warranty). The 2nd time they replaced the DESS module, ignition switch, keys reprogramed, new lock on the trunk. The above was replaced in Aug. 2014. Since then, I have not had the DESS code show up, and I now have 22,060 miles on the Spyder.
Keep us posted!

From everything I know about DESS (and this is just a little more than most :roflblack:) ..... I have not heard of any extra electrical stuff being an issue..... The DESS module interacts with the chip in the ignition switch ..... Some here have had to get an ignition switch in conjunction with the module ..... I didn't but it isn't clear in the minds at BRP EXACTLY what causes the DESS failure...... there have been 4 different modules since 2014 ...... IMHO some engineer decided to fix a non-existent problem ..... the 2009 to 2013 didn't have a problem .... then the module was changed and BRP has problems up the WaZoo :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:.... go figure ... We prefer the nuclear option. Just turn DESS OFF and be done with it. Useless system that only serves to keep the owner from riding. Does not deter theft by any knowledgeable vehicle theft team. Its easily bypassed without the key present.
Jcthorne... how do you bypass? Mine is 2016 F3S SE6

Well I have an appointment to take my Spyder into the Dealer 2-9-18. So will see how everything goes. I have to get it fixed because I don't want to get stranded out some where. Will let you know how it turns out.
Cheers
Thank You All. I had considered buying a used 2014, (in year 2016). :coffee: I am now VERY glad that I went with a NEW 2016 RTL. :lecturef_smilie: PS: I did my homework on 'SPYDERLOVERS' Forum. :firstplace:
Well I picked up my Spyder this morning from the Dealer 2-13-18. Here is the Dealer comments as written on the work order. No codes stored in (BUDS). But we and BRP have seen this before, BRPS recommendation is to change out the DESS MODULE. If it comes back, then replace the DESS ANTENNA. So the DESS MODULE was replaced, and both my keys were reprogrammed. This was accomplished under extended warranty and with no charges to me. I'm a happy camper and hope that this takes care of my DESS issue.
Cheers
The 2nd time my dealership replaced the DESS MODULE, Ignition Switch, Reprogramed the Keys, Changed the trunk lock/and gave me a new trailer lock (On Aug. 28, 2015). The above work was done @ 8,740 miles, and since then I have not had the DESS Key code show up on the screen. My current mileage is 22,000. Also, I have a 2014RTS-SE6.
The first time (on July 14,2015) my dealership replaced only the DESS MODULE.
I hope you don't get the DESS issue. Good Luck!

I am guessing go with the cheaper repair first then the harder more expensive repair next if the module doesn't work out. :dontknow:

I've had my DESS module replaced .... by real BRP Tech's ...... they told me the keys have nothing to do with the DESS module ..... and they didn't do mine .......... So either your dealer isn't as up on this as they think they are, or they just did it anyway for some unknown reason ...... Mike
I placed an order today for a DESS Module #710004916 with Cheap Motorcycle Parts. I am to have it next week sometime. I will switch it out myself. I have a 2015 Spyder RT and have had it little over 10 months and have put over 10,000 miles on it. It now has 20,700 miles on it. I have had DESS Key orange screen about 4 times, once last September and about two weeks ago and all I have ever had to do is remove the key and put it back. I was not much worried about it until BLUEKNIGHT911 tells me I am going to be stranded. I sure hope this is all I need. I only have one key so as soon as I get the module changed I have a blank key and will have it cut and someone program it for me.
