The new firmware is great! Both me and my wife find the new side-tone feature annoying, so we have it set to disabled. However, communication from helmet to helmet is amazing. We don't use voice actuated. When you press the button to talk, it is perfectly silent, which is great because there is none of the annoying background noise as before. Instead of constantly turning on/off helmet to helmet communication; I find myself leaving it on all the time now. Thanks Sena!
Update done this afternoon.
SENA has new firmware for the SMH10R, SMH5 & SMH5-FM. This brings the Universal Intercom and Sidetone features to 3 more of their Bluetooth Devices. These features were previously available to the SMH-10.
"...pleased to announce the release of the version 5.0 of the SMH10R and 2.0 of the SMH5 and SMH5-FM with major enhancements in functions and features such as Universal Intercom and Advanced Noise Control™.
- Universal Intercom™: You can have an intercom conversation with non-Sena Bluetooth headsets using the Universal Intercom™ function.
- Advanced Noise Control™: It is equipped with wind noise suppression and intelligent Noise Gate in the intercom to limit the interference of wind noise and background noise while riding.
- Sidetone: If this feature is enabled, you can hear what you are speaking during an intercom conversation or a phone call.
You can upgrade your firmware using the new Device Manager v2.0.1 for Windows and Mac users.
Please be sure to register your product online in order to download the new Manager software, since free upgrade service is provided only to the registered users. For more details, please visit Sena web site at www.SenaBluetooth.com."
well after attempting to upgrade my SMH10 and failing, I contacted Sena and they issued me an RMA to send the unit back to them
got an email back from them that they are sending me a new unit since apparently there was a problem with mine - waiting for it to arrive any day now...
OK I got as far as getting the upgrade downloaded onto my MacBookPro laptop. BUT cannot figure out how to get it from MacBook to the Sena device. So I contact tech support and person says watch this youTUbe..:yikes:.which I did but it went so fast no way could I figure it out. Another frustration for my non techi brain.
Anyone out there able to help me or I'm bringing "stuff" to Spyderfest and I could meet you somewhere. Thanks. A PM would be best..that way I know I got the response.
OMG he sent me a short paragraph with simple steps and IT WORKED..... I am soooooo excited . AND I paired with my GPS and my iPhone and I'm feeling sooooo techie!!! Thnk you Thank you did I say how :yes: this makes we feel.
Just upgraded both our SMH-10R devices.
Do any of those familiar w/ SENA products know...if myself and a passenger are each connected to our own iPods listening to music...can we still communicate when need be through the intercom? And specifically how?
Thanks.
.
If you only have the two helmets paired to each other then you just push the middle button once. The music will stop on both ends and the intercom will be active.
Push the middle button once again to end the conversation and the music resumes

It gets a bit more involved when you start adding additional helmets

Yes

The helmets function totally independently until the intercom function is activated. The intercom has first priority in the system.

You mention the helmets being paired to each other...they can be paired to each other "and" to separate iPods?
I'll have to try it and use the button you mention, thanks.
Yes, remember that the intercom communication from helmet to helmet is not a Bluetooth connection. The range would be to short.

Spend some time with the book. There are a ton of really cool features!
When we first got ours my son and I sat in the family room with helmets on just playing with all the functions.

I thought the same. I have no idea what it is. But it makes sense cause the max Bluetooth range is only about 60 meters in perfect conditions

Hmmm....I think I'm wrong on the "Bluetooth intercom" info. From what I'm reading now the intercom is Bluetooth.. Sorry bout that.
It all does work very well together though with multiple pairings. Even multiple helmet pairings

We'll have to try out a few things before hitting the road.
